Clean up in isle 5 !

Not every ear of sweet corn is a perfect roasting ear. It is necessary to go back through the rows to pick the "leftovers" and make the most of them by canning or freezing. For me right now freezing is the easiest method.

Some of the ears are ok... you just have to trim around the bugs.

]

Other ears are small "scrubs" with just a few bites of corn available.

When you have all the sweet corn trimmed from the ears.it is time to guess how much sugar, salt, and water to add in order to cook the kernels.

About mid-way through the cooking I could tell I needed a bit more water.

I bring the corn to a good solid, full, rolling boil for about 15 minutes.

I turn off the heat allowing to corn to cool to room temperature before bagging it for the freezer.

JD just wanted a steak and baked potato. I'd picked up crab salad for myself at the store along with a yam that I made into zesty fries .

I seen my Dr this afternoon at the clinic. He'd taken a blood test earlier in the week. Unbeknownst to me he scheduled an emergency transfusion after my visit. Glad I had nothing else in my agenda for the afternoon. Doing the guys payroll....... a little stoned from Oxys.... pain was off the charts before my Dr visit because I don't like to drive Mercedes all "F"ed up on happy pills.

We had to freeze our corn because the hardness in the water made it turn dark brown if it was canned. We blanched it in boiling water while it was still on the cob, let it cool a bit and cut it off the cob and put it right into the freezer bags. Probably one of my favorite veggies to put up because it was the easiest.

Frozen corns are one of my favorite items to add to a meal. I don't go to the trouble of doing it myself when it is so inexpensive in the store. I do plan to make some apple sauce once the apples ripen.
I am pouring water to my grass and trees to help them through the heat wave. Only 87F today but it was forecast to be 94F. Forecast for 2morrow is 94F again. There is a nice Easter breeze that helps to make it feel cooler than it actually is. The humidity is unusually high for this time of year.

I had my hands full doggy sitting for a pair of little mutts. My yard isn't fenced so it was difficult to keep them from running away. I had to recall them using the word "treats". The little puppy ran around in circles under the lawn sprinkler. He's gone home now after I had finished my pork chop supper, baked red spud and fresh garden salad.

Sweet Corn is easy compared to some others. Corn is also probably our favorite veggie to eat not counting potatoes. I have a funny feeling that we better be glad for every package of veggies we get stored away this year.

We received about 1.25" of rain yesterday and last night. I transplanted a poplar tree this afternoon after I got home from the hospital. I was not expecting an emergency transfusion when I went in for a visit with my Dr.

My crab salad with Sweet potato fries filled me to bursting. I have payroll done now JD just has to sign his guys. Kind of an early day off for me with that Detour at the hospital. I transplanted a cute little Poplar tree that will grow fast to shade the west side of the house from the afternoon sun.
