Peeps !

My front porch residents have Tw0 offspring so far. Upon opening the door I am greeted by hungry "Peeps" expecting to be fed.

I hoed the string beans I planted along the shed this morning. They are looking pretty good so far. I watered them at dusk.

My packet of Morning Glory seeds (Only 6 seeds) appear to be all growing... a bit clustered ... ooo well.

Roxy kept an eye on me as I did some landscaping in the back pen making certain I didn't screw around with her stuff.

A pleasant day... a bit too windy so I putsied on the back side of the place. Sunny 79 F... 26 C just a nice day for the end of May. JD wants to cut hay tomorrow... just a bit too damp today with no rain in the near future... supposedly. Nurse came by to change wound dressing and tomorrow my gal comes to help me with laundry and cleaning.

Cutting hay was always the time of the year I hated because soon it would be baled and then the work began hauling and stacking all those small square bales by hand using a 1949 Mercury one ton truck with a standard 8' box bed. 40 bales at a time. My arms are aching just talking about it.

Good ol' Roxy looks mighty content to watch from the shade as you work.

It was 63F here today; a pretty nice day with little to no wind. Tomorrow just a tad warmer. I mowed my grass with a walk-behind mower because there was no gas in the tractor mower. Tired me right out. After lunch I walked the dog then drove my disabled neighbor to his Dr appointment in Picture Butte. Was a really nice drive through farming country on paved roads.

The yellow string beans are easily to see on the vine.

Since I am outta commission he'll just have to do big rounds. We just need some good dry time.

I gave up planting seeds, I never seemed to get it right. I did up some pots yesterday with geraniums, such an easy plant to grow. They give a great spash of colour all summer right up to the first heavy frost. I have some in full bloom now from last year. They survived the winter.

I see Roxy is keeping a good eye on things. Looks very content relaxing in the shade, clever dog.

I have some great Geraniums I bring in for the winter. I just did a bunch of cuttings for a variegated with scarlet blossom for a large pot. IF they root and take off I'll get them blogged.

Rottweilers have to be the smartest and most stubborn of all dogs. Roxy is about 8 years old. She struts through the pen as if she is the Kaiser and the other dogs better do as she says... even the Great Pyrenees gives her a wide birth when Roxy is in one of her "I RULE THIS PEN" moods. I had to help her down the stairs awhile after she'd gotten her... she just needed assistance so she wouldn't fall... I'd set on my rump and hold her collar.

I'm going later this week to find some flowers to plant in my new raised gardens. They are on legs, so no bending at all to plant or tend. I'm thinking one nice tomato plant for the large flower pot would be nice. I can always get more tomatoes from my daughter's garden if it doesn't meet our needs.
We are expecting rain today, but nice and hot weather for the rest of the week.
The grassy area next to us looks tall enough to bale, so they will probably be mowing it later this week. I'm not sure how it will be baled, it used to always be round bales, but last year it was the old fashioned rectangular ones for the first couple times.

JD cut hay today.. IDK how much but this will go for big rounds 1500-1600 lbs each. Way easier since I am outta commission for the stable hayloft and next impossible to find day laborers around here. The tomato selection at the nursery sucked... I want Romas for the nice meaty texture in salads & tacos. I just hope my Basil crop pays off.... I will post "crop updates" as the summer progresses. I like the raised garden Idea if I had a bunch of railroad ties I'd build up with them. A lady here has rhubarb in raised tractor tires that is quite impressive.

Roma!!! Oh yes. We discovered those years ago, when we did almost 2 acres in garden and canned til the cows came home. My husband started his own tomato plants because we planted so many of them that buying the plants would have been exorbitant. Roma was our favorite for juice because it left hardly any water at the top of the jar. Perhaps that is what I should plant in the pot. I have to peel them for Joe and then chop them up a little and use a bit of vinegar and oil, or Italian dressing from Aldi's on them. But I prefer more of a slicer for myself..... so maybe I will end up with two plants. LOL

For the Italian dressing do Lemon juice, sugar, olive oil, Basil, oregano, black pepper and fennel seeds. I've saved Roma seeds over from the largest tomatoes I've had with excellent results. I don't even bother with other tomatoes since I no longer have a big garden . The landscaping & lawn care coupled with my rentals just takes up too much of my time and right now with a walker I am just so screwed helping out at work or around the farm.
