Squandering frivolously.....

We've been squandering money frivolously in rummage shoppes!

Alex and I might have over done it a bit.

But he loves driving the SLK with the top down too.

MUTTs Inc love all the extra attention and...............

The piles of ribs bones we seam to garner. We've had barbecued ribs twice since Max & Alex got here. Coupled with fries, baked beans, chips, Cole slaw and biscuits I will be putting those pounds I lost back on....

Glad to hear you and Alex went out in the town to splurge just a little bit. Max and JD are probably still out at the stable horsing around. LOL!

Enjoy the weekend. It's been great weather here too.

Thrift shops, rummage sales and flea markets are the only kind of shopping that I enjoy. When Joe and I used to spend so much time with friends in Knoxville, TN. Joe often stayed in the room during the day while we three others roamed the thrift shops. On the weekends, he would sometimes join us as we wandered all over the two big flea markets in the area. Our friends' car and our own were usually stuffed totally full on our trips home. Them to MS and us to IL.

I know lots of people love and enjoy shopping in thrift shops and markets, just not my cup of tea at all. The odd time I did go all I could see was rubbish and what looked like broken stuff. My sister-in -law loves them and often finds little treasures, like you she has the gift of restoring items.

I have a very rich friend, and she loves shopping in charity shops. She enjoys them more than regular stores. She finds some really lovely and unusual items. She has the eye for a good bargain.

I think my best rummaging find was a very large Royal Saudi carpet with now visible wear for a mere $50... These are very expensive in regular stores. The rug was rolled up stuffed in a back cornered. it came home in my Beemer with the top down stuffed into the passenger seat. The Hallmarked old English hot cocoa "Pot" also comes to mind as a special treasure.

I don't dare go thrift shopping, I have enough junk around here to get rid of. I don't restore anything anymore, but I used to when I'd sell things at flea markets. I have one closet full of old items still packed up and ready to go should I decide to setup a booth again. I still have an Oriental rug in there that I need to have cleaned, but even if I do, I have no idea where I can put it, the color doesn't go with anything.

My personal weakness is paintings..... on canvas, framed, and have that quality where I just feel I could walk into it. Most of them have mountains, water, covered bridges or old buildings. And originally, the criteria included being $10 or less, although recently I have spent $20 on a few of them.
The problem is that I have run out of places to hang them. I sent one of them to a ministry called "the gift" where people can go get things for free..... clothes, household items, books, etc. And I have one that I think I will put in the booth at the shop. May have to get rid of a few more of the least favorite ones.

Our rugs are primarily dark blue to black backgrounds except for thew HUGE old Persian in the parlor.... that was here before I came along. It's like living in a museum. I am happiest I found a tall ruby red vase one of those 1980's hand blown one of a kind. No idea where she will go or what to put in it yet , however, Alex; our guest is quite talented.... maybe we will find time for an additional project.

What an excellent charitable cause to support. My requirement for additional artworks is that they are signed originals. I try to stay with American artists to support them. Our walls get swapped around every now and then, however, some like the Boucher and Huddans in the parlor are a permanent fixture.

LOL, you reminded me of the pictures in that closet along with all the rest of the stuff! Yes, we only have so much wall space to hang things up.

I'll have to check around my area and see if I can find a place to donate to. Not giving anything to Good Will so the CEO can make millions! I'll look into one that gives to those in need. Thanks!

An excellent idea. Neither of us have offspring so a portion is going to the ASPCA with our love of critters. I just hope we can get the new addition on for all the stuff I've bought to decorate it.
