~~~~~~ P ~~~~~~
"P" is for Popejoy.....
..a town founded by Norwegian and Danish ancestors, based on it's "Velkommen" welcome sign.
With just 79 residents in the 2010-* census.
Main Street is pretty empty with no commercial businesses open.
This multipurposed building has been a bank, elevator office, and cafe.
The old style gas station where you really had to "pump" your gas for your jalopy.
I had friends and family all around the little town. It used to be like a second home.... Now it is all pretty much gone. I am a bit late posting as being self employed can sometimes stretch the days out. it is just 21:00 here and I still am at it on a Friday night.. but I needed a break... I also drove myself today... took an old Ram in case I wrecked it no big loss.
But aren't Scandihoovians mostly Lutheran? Why did they name the town Popejoy?
Yes we are still Lutheran. The name comes from the a founding "father" of the Railroad that used to go through the community is my understanding.
Interesting history of the slow death of small towns. I live in one that has lost almost all of its former businesses. There are about 100 occupied homes here, and the residents here are happy and we struggle to keep the village utilities infrastructure from falling apart.
Good to hear that you are feeling safe enough health wise to resume driving. As always, please take care.
I don't know how they stay afloat... Just black topping the main street would bankrupt those who are left.
I grew up in a tiny town in Illinois. I think they counted the cats and dogs in the census. Even now, the town around us are considered small with only 1,300 each and the county seat has 4,400. I don't know how I could even survive in a city!
Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
I'd always loved the city life and loved visiting our friends in Chicago.... They now have armed guards 24/7 in their condo. For awhile they were afraid to even go out for dinner.... This rural living aint half bad since we have on line shopping that will get us about anything we want within a few days.
