FLIPPIN

Why does seem the SHI* always hits the fan at night? One might ask Fredrick Fleet (1887 - 1965) the crewman who spotted the "iceberg Right Ahead !" from the crows nest of the Titanic on the cold night in April.

Last night as I tossed wood into the fireplace getting ready to hit the hay after a pleasant evening chatting with friends in the LOBBY. I heard an odd humming/buzzing noise not in sync with the usual household clamor. The fan that circulates air the fireplace heating the main level along with the basement decided it was time "F" UP!..... I flipped the circuit breaker installed a window fan in the "emergency access" then went bed.

Pumpkin HATES excitement or distractions in his pantry. This morning I began cleaning and moving stuff so we could change the "snorkel fan." I gathered up lights, tools and located the extra fan out in the shop. I started a fire so we could do test runs of the new fan... Half the morning spent in prep of this undertaking.

Just for schitz und gigglez JD walks over the main utility panel and flips the circuit breaker back ON..... the old fan takes off as if nothing had happened.... The Viking welled up inside me and I just wanted SMASH something with a hammer! The whole morning spent in prep of a major operation ... JD just flips a switch.

You managed to control your Viking urges and ended up with a working fan just by flippin' the switch. Job well done!

At least we had not drug the other squirrel cage fan up to the house yet. I'd just pulled it out and blew it off clean to bring.

All it took was a flip of a switch, easy peasy.

There was a time when Joe would have tackled those jobs, but by the time we met, he was just calling the repairman. However, I was still Mrs. Fix-It-Myself. Within a few years, my capabilities for that dwindled, and I am so thankful that we have a wonderful son in law and daughter who can tackle just about anything. If it's beyond their scope, I have the repair people's number.
A lot of people won't even attempt to do anything like that. My first husband was a DIY guy, and often the kids helped him. I was surprised that my oldest son never did any of his own repair work, but I have two other sons who do, and the daughter I mentioned, who married a great guy who is a carpenter, but can do just about anything else.

I am sure that flipping the switch works better than smashing something with a hammer.

Not always can you just get a qualified repairman but to have a family full is very lucky indeed. Out on the farm you develop a self-reliance for "Fixin" many things that break down... sometimes even if you are flying blind into it. These fans only last about 20 years and we've replaced them before... just a royal pain in the paaatoot.

You're probably right... it's just that sinister primal deeply hidden core rooted in that Teutonic pillage and plunder legacy that I suppress.

Lol, I think we have all been to the point of wanting to smash something, but aren't we glad we didn't?

....LOL.... yaaaa I guess you're right. Just my whole morning flushed down the drain getting ready for this nasty project. But I am glad the motor had just over-heated and all it took was a reset.
