the Time to let go

Many of us have beloved pets around us. They come in all types, shapes and sizes. We love them care for their needs then the day comes when we must say "Good bye" Not an easy thing to do.

We had a Big B that lived well beyond the normal age for a . Pampered, cared for above and beyond the norms of other equestrians. How did he do it??? Love

Our adopted Greyhound ,Rosie is the oldest of MUTTs Inc approaching years very soon. Bright, spry she has gears stop and GO! She might be getting cataracts but there just is no slowing her abundant energy.

Roxy is our quiet gurl... stealthy silently down the hall to the bedroom with her bedtime cookie. She's about years old on the upper side of longevity for a Rottweiler. Her fear is coming down the stairs. She will stand and bark until I come to slide down the steps holding onto her collar so she does not fall.

Ruby our 5 lb fluff ball is next at years. I rescued this Great Pyrenees from being put down by a "shelter" simply because of her size. Her happy joyful temperament is shared with everyone she comes into contact with.

Ronnie.... who gets mixed with our stable hand also named Ronnie. This Hungarian Viszula very nearly went extinct through the rigors of world wars. We rescued him after a hurricane separated him from his family and he languished to be put down within days. He now bounces through the house thinking Rosie is his mommy.

Lastly is Pumpkin... a name drawn out of a hat after friends on the site submitted their suggestions. Pumpkin was a stray kitten that went a tree near the house and had to be saved. He now guards the pantry from rodent pests gaining weight every autumn.

Never easy to say "good bye" I firmly believe our babies stay close watching over us.

I am having to give Ruby an aspirin now twice a day she is starting to act stiff and less agile. Just not her bouncy self. The whole day seems to be spent caring for and providing for our critters. Warmer today 41 F but a brisk wind

Our critters are wonderful and it breaks my heart to let them go. I have 2 dogs, down from 5, two cats, d own from four and three donkeys and two head of cattle. They are all permanent party here on my 200 acreage. My grass is too high and am concerned about fire this Spring so tomorrow I will have additional 9 young Bradford Angus Bulls to add to the family. They belong to my neighbor ranch and can help mow my grass. They are yearlings, sweet and raised for breeding. My animals keep me grounded. But, the loss of any creates a deep scar. Nobody here goes to market ! A very nice blog. Thanks.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Might I also suggest goats as grass managers.... neighbors had some growing up... always fun to see the kids romping in the spring. It is hard to loose a pet and scars the heart.

Yes, I am familiar with goats as a clean up crew for the fall. We have goat herds that you can "rent" for that purpose. However, my fencing is not built for smaller animals.. They are great for small acreage.

We raise Black Angus Cattle here and need heavy duty fencing that can throttle back an 1800 lb pet Bull. The bull follows JD around like a puppy dog wanting his ears scratched. My horse Siegie is almost too old now to ride so we go on walks through the pastures or I hop a moped and he trots along. Goldie is our main work horse for tending the cattle. My grandfather raised hogs... I miss the baby pigs ... so smart and playful. Thank you for stopping back too!

Wow, you have a right household of pets indeed. I'm sure they must keep you very busy. All really loved and well cared for I see.

We have one cat, Charlie, and three neighbouring cats that come in to visit every day. My daughter has them all spoiled rotten.

Our Pumpkin is also a "well spoiled" feline getting his can of tuna in oil so his fur is shinny and fluffy. Your-neighbor cats are envious of your fur baby's level of attention thus wanting in on the act.

I have had pets all my life, and when the kids were all still home, we had multiple ones. Cats, dogs, fish, gerbils, lizards, snakes, rabbits, goats, and ponies and a small horse have all made their homes with us at some time, and then there were the farm animals that the kids tried to claim as "their pet", but were for meat. Some we acquired on purpose, and others were dumped near us, people probably figured if we had a houseful of kids, we wouldn't mind a pet.
When Joe and I got married, I had a Pom, named Pip and then a cat showed up on Christmas Eve during an ice storm so she moved in with us too. When we had to have Pip put away for health issues due to her old age, we gave the cat to my daughter because she was lost without Pip and always underfoot. The dangers of tripping are just too great for us, so there will be no more pets.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Growing up my grandparents on the farm had all kinds of critters. My parents allowed us cats and dogs all the way along. Pets and the responsibilities of ownership I feel are important to kids growing up.

At our age, pets have come and gone. My daughter and I were talking about one of my favorite horses the other day, his name was Rawhide. I remember our first ride together and how the stable hand warned me that he always comes back to the barn without a rider. My oldest girl was with me that day and we were having a pleasant ride until I asked for more than a walk. He started crow hopping and did his best to lose me, but he couldn't throw me off. Once I got the bucks out of him, he was an awesome ride. I ended up buying him and took him home. I could ride him without any tack, just jump on his back out in the pasture and controlled him with my legs. No one else could ride him without me being around, he threw my daughter three times, but if I was there, he acted like an angel. He was the smartest horse I have ever had, I miss him the most out of all my pets.

We keep flowers out on our "Boot Hill" where all our past pets, cats, dogs, and horses are laid to rest. There is also a flowering Catalpa tree just for them. Each has his carved marker stone. There's always that special one in one's heart. I firmly believe when it is my time to pass over it will be my fur babies that are first to greet me.
