Are We So Undeserving? Perhaps I'm a slow learner, but I've just learned the U.S. war funds pays for universal health care for Iran and Afghanistan as a means of winning them over.....while at the same time the Republicans work to dismantle our own universal health care. Yesterday, under Disingenuous Defined, I asked your take on the U.S. foreign aid subsidizing the socialized benefits of Israelis, while cutting domestic funding at home. I just don't understand our lack of outrage. What's your take? Afghanistan*, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iraq*, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United Kingdom *Universal health coverage provided by United States war funding There you go. Keep in mind: this is a simple list of countries that have some sort of publicly sponsored health care system. For instance, Sri Lanka may be far from having a true, working universal health care system like France, but prescription drugs are provided by a government-owned drug manufacturer. This qualifies as "some sort of publicly sponsored, universal health care system." The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page: St. Augustine |

I finally figured out how to post pictures with the post. These are countries with universal health care (excluding the U.S.). The orange countries have universal health care paid for by U.S war funds. The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page: St. Augustine

OOPS! They minimized the map of the world's universal health care countries. Nothing ever seems consistent on here. Perhaps it's my membership status. The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page: St. Augustine

Look at a few things. Population size....tax burden to pay for such programs. The US manages to do the wrong thing with the bst of intentions. Just because you have silenced a man does not mean you have changed his mind.

I don't know about others but for me the lack of response to political issues is due to the fact that I feel overwhelmed and reeling from all of the political crap and the helpless, at the mercy of the self serving people we continue to be foolish enough to give power over us. I revert to the serenity prayer and this is one of those things I can't do anything about so I have to let it go and put my energies in places I can do something about. Spiritwoman ^i^

If you wish to add a photo or graphic to a post, you must add a tag to the text where you wish to insert the photo. The tag would be like this [image][/image]. If you want the photo centered you must add the tag center between the two image tags. Hope that this helps.

Hi Sunshine: That the U.S. would pay for health care for the people of Iraqi and Afghanistan and not Americans is just terrible. I read about the huge amount of U.S. foreign aid going to those countries and just don't understand it. President Obama wanted universal health care for Americans, but people made him sound like a maniac for even suggesting it. We have government health insurance in Canada and so many other reasons to thank our lucky stars we were born here.

Hi Sunshine, I do not know you mean by a Universal Health Care System but in Malaysia, we do have a public health care system based on the British model. We only have to pay RM1 for consultation, tests, medicine, x-rays, etc. 1 RM is about US33cents. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past

Everyone, Bob has called my attention to a typo in this blog. I stated Iran in my first sentence when I intended Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you for calling my attention to the typo Bob. The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page: St. Augustine

So long as American's vote for incumbents they will get more of the same. Also, remember those who receive handouts from our government will vote for the candidate who will give them the most while those Americans's who are paying taxes are too busy to vote. You tell me who will go into office please? . The beginning of life, conception..

I do believe all governments should provide free medicare for their own people first in preference to countries of other political interest. But remember, you are the Sunshine; so is America to most of us in the Third World. Have a wonderful day and the weekend. "To fight the darkness do not draw your sword, light a candle" - Zarathustra

You tell me who will go into office please? They failed to grasp the actual problem and address spending when they should have spent their time camped on their butts addressing jobs and growth. Just imagine how much more horrible this would have been if more of these fools had been elected. For myself, I want someone that has enough knowledge to have passed high school economics.

Voting out incumbents on the basis that they will be replaced by someone better is a horribly flawed approach. Just look at the economic illiterate Tea Party members that we have in congress now. They don't even know that you do not cut spending in the midst of a recession. It seems as if Republicans and The Tea party are on a mission to do as much destruction as possible. In 18 months they have partially shut down the FAA costing the govt. millions in tax revenue, caused a downgrading of America's credit rating, almost gutted the Universal Health Care Act. It's power gone bad. The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page: St. Augustine
