Welcome to Week 23: Tour of Cape Cod – W Week! Featuring: Walkway, Wayfinder, Walking, Wind, Whydah, Windmill, Wilbur, Whiskers, Withering WALKWAY A walkway leading to a South Yarmouth beach on a partly cloudy morning in late summer. Spoiler alert: In a matter of hours the sun emerges from the clouds and beach-goers descend on this tiny, picturesque strip of sand. WAYFINDER Wayfinder signs seem to be everywhere on Cape Cod. Some of them are larger with two or three columns of listings. The thing that I find puzzling about them is that they are typically located on busy roads and how on earth is a driver (or passenger for that matter) supposed to read such a wordy sign while passing by at 40 mph?! WALKING In case you're viewing on a small screen … this sign at Mant's Landing in Brewster says “These dunes aren't made for walking”, a cute parody of the Nancy Sinatra hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'”. It's really important to educate beach walkers about staying off the dunes and I think this sign accomplishes that in a creative way. Got my attention! WIND The wind propels this kite surfer at Davis Beach Inlet. Opportunities for action photography of kiteboarding and windsurfing abound in this area. Still toying with the idea of purchasing a real camera to get clearer closeups of subjects like windsports. WHYDAH The Whydah Museum displays artifacts from a pirate ship that sank off the coast of Cape Cod in 1717. It is said to be the only fully authenticated and positively identified pirate shipwreck ever recovered in U.S. waters. I googled it for the history and found that I became so emotional reading it that I had to click out. If you're a Colonial history buff and have the ability to steel yourself against this ship's storied past enough to appreciate it from a historical perspective it would probably be an interesting read. WINDMILL This is Windmill Beach during the “shoulder season” (the season just before or just after peak tourism). A windmill sits on a ledge overlooking this beach. I tried everything I could think of to include the windmill .. even an attempt at adding interest with the windmill blades in the foreground. Dozens of outtakes later I gave up and took a photo of just the beach. Later I went home and googled images of the area to see how I could have improved the shot. I didn't feel so bad once I saw that I wasn't the only photographer to struggle with the angles. WILBUR Wilbur Park at Bass River on a June morning at sunrise. WHISKERS Maybe off topic for a Cape Cod tour but I guess he qualifies because he lives on Cape with me! WITHERING The stem and leaves are holding up well but the petals of this withering Rosa Rugosa will soon fall. I'm not a cold weather person so I struggle a little bit with signs of fall/winter but on a positive note Cape Cod is known for having milder winters than the surrounding area. Thanks for joining me for “W week” on Cape Cod!

Wow, 40 years since your last visit to the Cape? Come to think of it I had been away from the Cape for decades too until I made the decision to move here. Best decision of my life!

Beautiful beach/sea scenes Pearls. I like the kiteboarding action shot too - I think it would be a lot of fun! My favourite for this week's 'W' offerings has to be Mr. Whiskers - great shot! I love how you captured his profile/whiskers against the contrasting dark background/play of light.

Talking about good photos, that of the cat is great!

Lovely Ws..... and you had me captured at the first one! Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Thank you! I like that one too ... the way the sun's rays are shining down onto the water through the clouds.
