How has COVID changed your life? Are you back to your everyday activities? Feeling confident and safe? I'll tell you my story and I'd love to hear yours! Six years ago I relocated and opened a new business in my new community. I'm happy to report that by 2020 I was feeling settled in and happy with the way the new business was going. I envisioned a bell curve .. increasing new business, experiencing a plateau, then gradually tapering it off with my planned 2022 retirement. Then COVID hit. The five community centers and senior centers that housed my business programming all abruptly shut down and the pretty bell curve looked more like a mountain and a cliff. The nature of my work is aerobic, social, and senior citizen-centric. While the Governor has lifted all statewide COVID restrictions, most of the buildings where I worked remain closed to activities, masking is recommended (incompatible with aerobics in my opinion), and my doctor has advised caution. So here I sit, feeling a little defeated wearing my almost-dormant fitness tracker that used to register up to 10 miles a day. I stay busy with hobbies but they are unfortunately mostly sedentary and solitary. Just like all of those funny social media posts we see, I am working on practicing social distancing from my refrigerator, glamming up with lipstick and earrings to take the trash out, and planning my next vacation. Should it be to Puerto Backyarda or Los Livingroom? lol One would think that all of this unanticipated leisure time could be redirected to outdoor fitness activities, cooking adventures and keeping a spotless, organized home. Ummm … I plead the fifth. On a positive note, Foto Friday has been a bright spot, giving me a sense of purpose and something to focus on other than mundane household chores. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of it! That's my story. And how are you these days? Are you back to your everyday activities? What's your key to feeling motivated and hopeful?

More or less back to normal thank goodness. We still have to wear masks in shops and all indoor venues. We must have a vaccine passport for indoor dining, theatre, gyms, leisure centres etc. Sorry to see that you are still in a sort of lockdown situation there. At this stage people need to get back to some form of normality . I'm surprised to see all your community centres remain closed, big loss for sure. Hopefully they will reopen sooner rather than later. Roll on Foto Friday, and happy snapping, Pearls.

WE NEED A "SANITARY PASS" TO PARTICIPATE IN MOST SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND ENTER RESTAURANTS, LIBRARIES, MOVIE THEATERS AND SUCH. YESTERDAY WAS OUR SENIOR SERVICES DANCE AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE WE DID NOT NEED TO WEAR A MASK. LAST WEEK WE HAD SHOWS AND I HAVE BEEN TO THE MOVIES TWICE, IN OTHER WORDS OUR LIFE IS GETTING BACK TO ALMOST NORMAL INCLUDING FOR SPORTS IF YOU HAVE BEEN FULLY VACCINATED OR HAVE A NEGATIVE TEST WITHIN THE LAST 36 HOURS. OUR SENIOR SPORTS ACTIVITIES ARE BACK TOO AND IN RETIREMENT HOMES LIFE IS JUST ABOUT BACK TO NORMAL. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Hi I think we all have suffered in more ways than imaginable . After getting my second shot I was ready to come out and join the world again. However after being locked down and socially restricted for so long I wondered if it was similar to being released from prison. Where to go? Is it safe? How to function in society again? Like the ex-con I longed to retreat home (jail) if all else failed. The old haunts and music venues I would would visit seemed less important to me. I sensed a hidden danger and suspicion around people that I both knew and didn't know at the same time. There was an urgency to reconnect with family but embraced it as callously and safely as possible. I've recently received the booster shot, although I should be "good" for awhile I'll still approach life from another frame of mind. I see my children and grandchildren as much as possible. Recently purchased tickets for Trinity Rep in Providence. And am searching for that balance in life that makes it worth living, again.

Should say "cautiously" in last post. Spell check anyone?

I'll join you on that fifth about cooking adventures and well organized spotless home........... shall we make the fifth Captain Morgan's rum or tequila? Our COVID saga is that we have no COVID saga at our house. Our social isolation is more due to physical problems that Joe has had, like his broken leg two years ago, and his broken arm last year and all the other debilitating problems he has experienced, than to the COVID pandemic. Add that to the death of our best friend, and losing several other family members and friends.... none of them COVID related, and we just find ourselves staying home. I order many of the things we need online and have shipped to our house, but I do go to the grocery stores also. I don't mind wearing a mask in them, but I don't put it on until I'm ready to go inside, and I remove it upon leaving, because I have a problem breathing and walking faster like outside. Can you believe I had one woman actually yell at me for walking, outside, in the parking lot with it down below my chin? I told her I would pull it up when I got ready to go in, and she almost screamed, "You will be sorry when you are in the hospital and can't breathe!!!!" We also go to the shops where we have booths, but many times Joe just waits in the car for me to do what I need to do. I laughingly told our primary doctor that all our socialization these days seems to be with doctors and the nurses and the shop owners..... and online. A big change from the way we were just two and a half years ago, but one to which we are adjusting..... and it's not COVID related. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I don't have any diagnosed breathing difficulties but I experience the same difficulty with masks that you describe. I'm fine if I'm wearing a mask while inactive but as soon as I start moving around I can't breathe well. My students are getting a little annoyed about my delay in restarting programs but I know I'll need to wait until I am confident that masks are not needed anymore. Wow that lady with the mask comment needs to simmer down!! It sounds like you were very polite to her despite her rudeness. So true about socialization these days .. My interactions with people are mostly limited to the grocery delivery guy, the gas station attendant, and my cat. If I start talking to my robotic vacuum cleaner I'll know I'm in trouble. Lol

where I live in Australia, my day to day activities have not really been affected all that much. No wearing of masks. No covid out breaks. We have to Check-in to most commercial businesses using a phone app. That's about it. I have had two jabs and have a certificate of immunisation in my phone. I guess I'm one of the few very lucky.

I guess if I hadn't been able to shop for groceries and drug stuff I would have gone loony for sure. For months I wasn't able to go out with my friends for our regular dinners. I haven't seen my family that lives in the area since July 2020. Most of it has to do with Covid. I finally got back in the gym a couple of months ago after receiving my two vaccinations. I have my passport now which makes me feel safe as they will not allow in the gym unless you have that. When I go out to dinner I have to show my passport and if no passport no dining in. But things aren't over with by any means. Our numbers are up again in BC because the naysayers aren't getting vaccinated. So that is where I stand at this time. Pearls I am sorry you haven't been able to back into the community centers. Our local library was closed for a while and then in order to borrow books we had to order them online. It is more or less open now.

It's so nice that you have a creative artistic outlet. And I agree with you about how the past year and a half has given us all a good reason to think about priorities and the big picture. I wish you the best with your workshops and classes!

Had never heard that song before ... can definitely hear the rhythm you're describing in it. And it was kind of fun to see a video of a 45 rpm record on the Youtube clip. Brought back memories!
