Welcome to Week 19: Tour of Cape Cod – S Week!

Featuring: Sound, S.S., Sign, Starfish, Swings, Seagull, Sun, Sandpipers, Saints

SOUND
The first photo is Nantucket Sound, bordered on the north by Cape Cod and on the south and west by Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard respectively. This is the same area but a different angle of the photo I posted a few days ago for a discussion of how cropping can change the “feel” of a photo.

S.S. SAND SCULPTURE in SOUTH Yarmouth
The Town of Yarmouth's annual Sand Sculpture Trail is winding down for the season but some of sculptor Fitzysnowman's interesting works are still standing. This one is the “S.S. Candy Co.” at the Candy Co. of South Yarmouth.

SIGN in the SAND about SHARK SAFETY
I'm sure the Town doesn't want to scare us. They just want us to be safe at the beach!

STARFISH
Shouldn't every jewelry box on Cape Cod contain a pair of starfish earrings? I just love sea life!

SWINGS
Located on a public beach, these swings were temporarily removed for a few years due to vandalism but happily they're back now! It was a lot of fun playing around with different viewing angles for this photo. If you were part of the discussion on cropping a few days ago you might recognize the beach house on the left and Nantucket Sound on the right.

SEAGULL
Most of my previous photos of gulls and other birds were taken from a distance, sometimes even from my car. But this fearless little guy let me walk right up to him!

SUN at SOUTH Village Beach
I didn't notice until I got home and started cropping this South Village Beach photo that I had captured the sun and the moon together in the same photo!

SANDPIPERS
My latest attempt at a still life – a Christmas ornament featuring one of the Cape's most loved birds, the Sandpiper.

SAINTS
A sandy stretch of beach just to the east of Saints Landing in Brewster. So excited to have discovered the “live photos” feature on my phone. I was able to review a series of sequential automatically-captured frames and select the one that showed the bird's wings in the most interesting position. Until now I had no idea what the “live” feature even did! I'm amazed that it even captures audio!

Thanks for joining me for “S week” on Cape Cod!

Wonderful series of pictures. I really enjoyed them.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Beautiful......I love Starfish so much.......There was a reef in the bay below my house.......One day when I was coming home in the boat at a very low tide in the Spring, all the purple starfish were askew.....barely hanging on with part of one arm and the water around them was milky......I was immediately concerned for their health, worried that there had been a spill of some toxic substance in the vicinity, but, as it turned out, they were just exhausted from all the sex they had been having and the water was milky from sperm..........

For years, I signed my art with a starfish......Actually, my first ID on this site was starphysh.......

Glad to hear the starfish were ok and it wasn't a toxic spill! They really are amazing creatures!

Think I've finally managed to wade through most Foto Friday contributions, lol.

What can I say - beautiful shots of dawn, muted colours, seascapes and calm. Thank you Pearls - this is my come-to meditation blog. How enlivening the dawn, quietly enjoying the fresh sea air/surroundings (with travel mug of coffee in hand)

Beachy scenes, SS Candy Company, and Starfish earrings. That's good as it gets.

One of the angles I tried out on the photos of the swings was looking out over the water. That shot didn't come out very well but when I look at it I am reminded of years ago when I first decided that I eventually wanted to move closer to the ocean.

I made a point of going to take the photo at the Candy Co. when they were closed so I wouldn't be tempted to buy sweet stuff that I shouldn't be eating! lol

Glad you enjoyed them! Yes, this year's tourism season is winding down and things are getting very quiet around here again. I remember when I was purchasing my condo the former owner said to me at the closing that she felt I'd really love it here if I could tolerate the quiet!

Thank you! I was so surprised when I noticed the sun and the moon together! I actually Googled it to see if it was really possible. lol

I also would love to live closer to the ocean, but I am scared of tsunamis.

I understand. I'm afraid of coastal-related natural disasters too but I figure there is the potential for natural disasters of different types in every part of the country. For me it was about deciding what I was least afraid of! Initially I wanted to live right on the ocean but after doing some research I decided that was too risky so I settled about 5 miles inland. So far so good!
