Wikipedia says this type of wild rose is known as Rosa Rugosa. It is valued because it tolerates salt water spray from the ocean and it can help control erosion.

I have a rosa rugosa growing in the hedge at the bottom of my garden. It is extremely hardy and, in rich soil it grows vigorously. I have to prune out 2-3 metre long branches which grow out above the vegetable beds every year and the plant itself competes very well with privet, hawthorne and bay shrubs. It has beautiful pink flowers just like your pictures , and very large thorns as I experience to my cost every time I have to prune it.

The flowers have definitely evolved. Lucky flowers living on the beach

Oh the heck with the flowers..... I enjoyed the trip to the edge of the ocean with you. I could see, hear, and smell the surf and birds and feel the peace, and also the melancholy of leaving there because that's what I felt when we left that peacefulness. Your second photo brought back some great memories. On one of our trips to New England, we stayed in a small 'mom and pop' motel somewhere near Kingston. It was a short drive to the ocean, but not a good place to sit and enjoy it because the parking was along a busy road and there were only occasional areas with steps down through the rocks to the water. But I remember leaning on the guard fence and watching the water and seeing those flowers growing in patches among the rocks. I could see the houses in the distance, similar to your picture. Joe told me that was the northern edge of the cape. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I love wild flowers, especially roses. Some of them have a lovely strong scent too. Lovely blog, I enjoyed the read.

PearlsWithJeans what love photos of flowers by the sea. Your shoreline looks like the shoreline where I live. I am 5 minutes from walking to the beach. It is always a never changing scene. On the weekend English Bay has lots of freighters sitting out there. They are either waiting to be loaded or unloaded. Sometimes at night it looks like a little city when the ships are all lit up.
