Not my first rodeo. I used to chat way back in the early 90's. I remember it as a fun, relaxing way to connect with other people and escape the doldrums.

PJ - "Iggy" is your friend. I use it widely and ruthlessly. But now that I think about it, I've never iggied a Ruth.

Hope you decide to ride it out, though.

Sax.

Hi Pearls, I think when I welcomed you to the chat room, I may have mentioned that the room is like real life.... Happy folks/Unhappy folks.

Fortunately, there are only about 3 [maybe 4?] people who come in who are rather negative. The vast majority are friendly chatters who just like you, want to pass some pleasant time and have a bit of FUN.

You can actually use the wonderful IGNORE feature or just mentally ignore some.

I do not engage with those who are negative attention seekers.

You are a pleasant chatter and I have enjoyed meeting you in the Lobby. I hope you continue to pop in to chat.

ET is right, it used to be all that. I joined in 2003, and was kind of shy myself. In fact, that was my handle. I was also a very newbie at it all. I had tried the yahoo chat, and found it way too vulgar, so when an ad for SFF popped up, I explored and thought it was what I would like, and I was right.
The chat room was the only feature I used back then, and spent hours every day there.
The greatest part was when I met Joe and he had just moved into my area and we met in person. I was only looking for folks to chat with, and maybe someone near enough to become a friend. I got both. Then, with Joe, I was able to meet so many of those chatters in person! That added a whole new dimension to online friendships.
I haven't been in chat for years, and certainly could not keep up anymore, but I've heard about experiences like you have had. I'm sorry that happened, but the blogs have changed too, and not for the better. We either give up and leave (as many have done) or we hang in and try to enjoy what we can of it.
You were wise to ignore the ignorant.

You were absolutely right, Rocket, when you first welcomed me to chat and mentioned that I'd find both happy and unhappy folks in the room. I agree with your idea of not engaging with negative attention seekers, and thank you for the reminder about use of the ignore feature. It is always a pleasure chatting with you in the Lobby!

I find you a very kind and insightful person. You are a wonderful breath of fresh air here. My hope for you is that you don't have to go through what people here put me through, from the day I got here. Make it what feels right for you. If you need to fight back then sometimes you just have to. I once asked my minister, confessing that it was hard to constantly find myself having to turn the other cheek when I felt that enough was just enough. What he said surprised me. He said Jesus never said to turn the other cheek so it could be hit too. I'll spare you the details. But what I did with that allowed me to set barriers where I had to without having to compromise what I felt was righteous. In other words, I didn't have to be perfect anymore. That revelation really opened up my world a lot. I took ownership of what was good and responsibility for what wasn't. It became a lot easier to see through fog, where the brilliance of soul shines so brightly.

Thank you for the kind words, LeafReport. It sounds like your minister is a very wise person and has made a big positive difference in your life. I'm glad to know that things have become easier for you. I know what you mean about how sometimes a different way of looking at things can feel like seeing through the fog. When chat was enjoyable, Tx, my life was very different than it is now. It was back in the 90's. I was stuck in a bad marriage and there were many other factors that made life challenging at that time. Chat was, for me, a way to temporarily set aside my worries and connect with other people. The particular chat application I used at the time allowed users to be in a chat room and simultaneously carry on private messaging with one or more chatters in separate screens. Users had the option to select from tons of topic-specific rooms ranging from mild to wild, and could even dream up their own theme and create a room. It was rare to see a “bad apple” in a room for two reasons. First because the wide variety of rooms helped people gravitate toward others who shared (or at minimum tolerated) their way of interacting with others, and second because chatters in the main rooms were unified in their desire to keep the experience fun and would call out any offenders. There was also a “report” feature that people would use liberally, which would freeze the offending chatter's account for a period of days.

Back then when in a main room I used to chat about current events. And in the private messaging screens I used to get to know each chatter a little better, opening up about personal life, work, daily struggles, etc.

Today my interests are music, dance, photography, genealogy research, healthy living, seaside walks, and decorating.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a great day!

Well, it's true, Tx, a lot of people worry about having two left feet but I have found that most of the time it's just that they have never been shown how to dance. For many people taking the step of booking lessons and getting oneself into a studio is the hard part. Once there, if I do my job right the rest is easy!

Every lady can dance with me.
I describe the background rhythm sequence in the music for both to listen to. Then I show the sequence I will guide her through.
We step out on the floor & do it. LOL
No memorizing or counting steps.
And NEVER listen to the words----always the sequence set out usually by the bass guitar or a combination of instruments.
4 beat rhythm usually great 3 step which allows travel around the dance floor with the lady doing under arm turns--- left to right side or in front of the guy ----the guy can even reverse & bring her around to the other side while she does 2 o 3 turn & winds up facing him moving forrward.
It is the TxJW 3 step. LOL
I did that at a among polka dancers at a polka national festival and got compliments.LOL
They were all doing the old POLKA waltz stuff which is stiff & corny-----not gracefull or flowing .

My sentence form and alterations often suffer due to the haste in which my thought of dancing exceeds my descriptive urgency. LOL
Hopefully you get the idea. LOL

It is sort of like a waltz ----leaving pat of 1 side off with an up & down which allows for constant forward dancing ----circllng the ballroom-------can be danced very slow travel or very fast travel gracefully & smooth in time together.

There are so many bad blogs out there I think we should just bring Pearls blog back to life.
Pearls is a natural blogger LOL
The Bee Gees!---How could I forget them. LOL
Recently I found a song----with fantastic rhythm by this particular band----I've been playing it for 3 weeks & thinking of dancing to it much faster (3 step) than those on the floor----Just Out Of Reach --Mutiari band nov 19 2019
could dance forward larger steps-----circle the floor about 6 times LOL
Party On

PearlsWthMyJeans replies on 12/18/2020 9:36 am:
TX, I just listened to the song you recommended, "Just out of Reach". It's really nice. When I heard the rhythm I wondered if the three step you mentioned is similar to what I know as Nightclub Twostep. I don't think I can post a link here but if you google "Jodi Fleishmann and Ari Levitt nightclub two step demo august 12, 2008" I think a Youtube demonstration of the dance should come up first in the results. It's a different song than the one you mentioned but the same foot rhythm could be used. (I'm not in the video. I just picked it because it was a good example of what I teach to that type of rhythm.).

Pearls i looked that up. it would be fun dancing that way in sync.
It is very different from what I am am familiar with.
We go to large places here where the emphasis is on faster dancers moving around the outside while slower ones move along the inside.
About the size of a basketball gymnasium.
Very little waving of hands---zero swing of hips----all very smooth -----never pick the foot completely off the floor. When the lady turns the guy leads her into it by raising the arm & gives her time to to the same step he is doing as they turn-----he can hold the arm up for any number of her graceful in line turns or just one-----actually the music clues as to when to turn the lady & when to take her out of the turn----
Neither person counts or memorizes steps they just listen to the same 3 or 4 beat rhythm as pointed out in the beginning.
VERY SIMPLE TO LEARN LOL
Very basic examle -------Country 3 Step Beth And Bonnie----u tub
if one can just look at the lady & ignore the guys pot gut. LOL
at the end it puts it together smoothly then advance from there.
Even the lesson is too jerky because of no music
Example of music------but NEVER listen to words in CW music------always the backbeat rhythm keys what and when to step
Like you didn't already know that?????????????????????? LOLOL
ANYWAY
The example>>>> Old Country--- Mark Chesnut----3 step (my version) LOL
I pick out certain instruments & follow them.
My dad was a musician and taught me how to fit different ones together.

Tx, it was interesting to see the dance clips you mentioned. Fun to watch. Country western is not my strong suit but I have done some of it because my former dance partner was really into it. These days the only real exposure I have to country western music is when a bride and groom that I'm coaching bring me their first dance music and it happens to be a country western tune. Then it becomes a nice challenge to figure out how I'm going to make two people who have never danced before look relaxed and happy for their first dance. Other than the occasional bridezilla/groomzilla it's usually a great experience!

I have been watching dance clips lately.
One unique is -----Traditional Polish Wedding 2----u tub
Those people know how to party.
Everyone mixed in. The groom was a little tipsy but the bride could sure step it out.
I have been to Czech weddings similar with CW dancing mixed in.
it was tradition when the bride & groom danced (slow) people would approach them and stuff money in the grooms pockets-----I would still be dancing. LOL
Have a nice day.
