There are a lot of scammers on SFF. I notice of late I am getting a lot of friend requests on FB. I get lots of phone calls from many places in the states on my cell phone. I avoid them like the plague. You can never be careful enough.

I personally believe that this is a unique internet problem . The anonymity that it offers is the main culprit. I have tried to warm some of my female friends about the dangers of trusting strangers, but unfortunately, some of them have become victims of scammers that probably live thousands of miles away.

I get lots of phone calls and text messages from scammers. I ignore or delete and block. The problem is scammers are getting more sophisticated, so more and more people will be taken in by them.

I get a lot of friend requests on Facebook, too, from people I don't know. Usually their profile is barely filled out as if hastily put together for the purpose of a scam. I just delete them.

A related question is the use of AI, just as you mentioned in your post. I wonder how widespread the use of AI is for malintent. I had planned to create an educational Youtube video of the group of dancing seniors I teach, when one of the potential participants said she was worried that AI could be used on the Youtube platform to manipulate the group's images and/or steal identities. The idea is scary. I wonder if it's a widespread threat or if I'm just overly concerned.

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!

I laugh when I see one of them commenting in face book that they admire the person but aren't able to contact them and want them to add them as a friend.
I have my privacy settings pretty strict on face book, so the only time I have gotten that one was after I commented on a friend's post whose settings weren't as strict as mine.
I did get a phone call one time, a guy called and said he was my grandson. I knew it wasn't but I strung him along for about 15 minutes. I whined like an old senile lady, crying and asking about his brothers and sisters and why none of them ever come visit me. He was really getting excited because he thought he had me convinced and was getting around to asking for money. That's when I started laughing and told him that I don't have a grandson by that name, nor any other family members with those names, so I knew he was a liar and a scammer. Suddenly, he didn't want to talk to me anymore and hung up. LOL.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I think many people think that it is not going to happen to them, until it happens.

I just deleted two "friends" requests, from young women, almost naked, that are younger than my niece. What are the chances of an old fart like me, attracting a young lady?

At this day and age, I don't understand why women are allowing those men to contact them, and allowing their comments without deleting them? How come they don't realize these are not honest people? Too many gullible people using the internet.

Somehow, my name and phone number got on a list that scammers use. I would get calls every few weeks from someone speaking in a heavy East Indian accent representing himself as an agent of VISA or MASTERCARD and saying he could reduce my credit card interest. I worked as a Financial Consultant most of my career and have zero tolerance for fraudsters, especially those who prey on the elderly. So I either hang up quickly, or play along with them, depending on my mood. I have noticed that they read from the same script, asking for credit card information in incremental steps. So when this guy says (in an attempt to access my credit card account) "Grab your credit card" I reply to him "Grab your **** and shove it up your ***." I have not heard from them again.

I can only imagine the scammer face when you began to curse him out. I don't understand how these scammers obtain our personal information.

It is ironic because the FB Catfish have absolutely no appeal. I am perfectly fine alone and actually prefer it. D*ck pictures are laughable. I was surprised to discover that quite a few married couples in my building actually have separate apartments.
