Online it's easier to act out emotions; and, also hide stuff; but only face to face one may see better if there is something else. Yes, one never will know, but in general, online or not, it's immature or insecure. She was maybe in a sort of magical thinking state of mind, acting "as if" it was in the reality, a real relatonship. Ok, we should precise: virtuality is also a form of reality, but we have to precise then which one: psychic reality of concrete, material/physical reality. People who marry, I understand you meant in reality, who met online, that's different, for same reason: they've had a reality check so to speak. The virtual was used as a tool to make a contact with someone. Personally the virtual fascinates me (ok not when people are rude), because as I'm interested in art, it's imagination, fantasy world it has a lot to offer.
