VOTING ON COMMENTS - I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS

I was just looking at a blog post and seeing that comments were voted on. I then looked at mine and saw that there is no option to vote. My questions:

1. Is there a setting to turn on/off voting?

2. What is the purpose of voting? I looked at a blog and all this blogger's friends' comments were given many positive votes. The opposite for those he/she doesn't get along with. What is the point?

One final comment. I just read a post that said that people want to see fighting here. That it shows we have passion despite our ages. I personally DON'T wish to see fighting. I will stand up for something I believe in but prefer not having anything to stand up for. When I returned to the site and saw the fighting was still happening as much as before, I was tempted (for a moment) to leave. I didn't because of the wonderful people here who aren't looking for fights to brighten their day. There are many things one could be passionate about, without the need to fight in order to exhibit a lively spirit.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Hi Elaine: I think that some people here do like debating, insulting and fighting, and those people are probably the ones who leave the voting turned on in their blogs.

HI bijou. I think you are correct that some people do have voting for that purpose. Thanks for your comment.

That's a smart idea, Pat. I can see how it is useful in such a case. However, I think I will leave mine off. When someone writes their opinion and others give it a bad rating, I think that's a very negative thing. I do believe the vote is directly linked to whether or not the blogger agrees with the comment made. It is a useless feature outside of the intelligent way you use it. Thanks for your great comment.

Shuel, the setting to allow or disallow voting is found in your blog settings.

    Fossil

Thanks Fossil. I am going to keep my voting off. I don't really like it.

Sadly I am not surprised to read that some disagree to everything. Voting is too biased to be useful, in my opinion. Thanks for your comment, puzzles.

it can be turned on and off in settings. And yes, it is s senseless feature and a
usually only used by those who want to start controversy. Personally I can not imagine why anyone wants to participate in controversy at our age but apparently some are fortunate enough not to have enough real issues in their lives. Too bad they can't see their good fortune and enjoy it.

I totally agree, Spirit. I was quite shocked to read, some people think that it is odd that others don't want to see fighting.

That is very weird, Maggie. Just reinforces the notion that voting makes no sense. Thanks.

Hi Elaine!
Agree. I don't use the voting feature. I don't like to see fighting, either.

I agree with Earthy as I don't see the value in having people vote on my blog. The only place it might make sense is if you are posting a poll. I have noticed people voting on blogs and often wondered if they agree with the contents or have some other ulterior motive. Good question to post Elaine.

I agree with you Shartaun03, that how they vote is suspect. Thanks for your comment.
