LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!

Today marks an historic event. Queen Elizabeth II's reign is now officially the longest ever for a British monarch, surpassing the record of Queen Victoria. As an article I read stated:

"The 89-year-old monarch officially surpassed the 63 years and 216 days that her great-great-grandmother Victoria reigned."

Love her or hate her, I think this is a significant event and I have always been very impressed by the dedication she has shown.

The 4th picture below is Queen Elizabeth around the time of her Coronation February 6, 1952.

I'm not much for following the queen, but I must say, she was very beautiful in her youth.

Nice to see you here, Rae. I know some aren't into royalty but this is an important occasion. Yes, she was beautiful and isn't a bad looking 89 year old either. Thanks for your comment.

Yes indeed, I think she is a fine and lovely lady. She is looking rather good for 89, same age as my father by the way.

How is your mother doing Elaine, hope she is well.

Same age as my mother too, Maura. My mother's radiation is starting on Monday. Thanks for asking and your comment.

Just one correction Shuel. Elizabeth ll is the longest reigning British monarch. Louis XlV still holds the European record at 72 years. She has another 8 1/2 years to go to beat him. Still her mum lived to be 102 so she has a chance.

I stand corrected, bondjam. You are right. Thanks for pointing that out.

I remember watching the Coronation in the basement/gym of our school in Illinois. Few people had tvs then but our school did.

That must have been something worth seeing. Thanks Ann.

Hi Elaine, she looks kind of feisty to me, spunky sort in a cute way. No, I am not into the lives of the royals, I like everyday normal people.

I know you're not into royalty, Rae, and you don't have to be. I'm not sure why, but I do enjoy hearing things about them and seeing photos. Thanks for checking out my post and for your comment. I'm always happy to hear from you.

Well I for one follow the royalty and in particular the younger generation. I was only 10 when Queen Elizabeth was crowned and I still have the coin we received in school for her coronation. I guess Prince Charles has to wait a few more years to take over the throne. She has been to Canada 27 times and there is talk of her coming again when Canada turns 150 years old in 2017.

I am not surprised that you are royal watcher like I am, Shartaun03. I didn't know the Queen is planning a visit in 2017. I wonder if she'll come to Toronto. It would be interesting to see her. Have a great weekend and thanks for your comment.
