REUNITED - A MISSING 9 MONTHS GETS REUNITED WITH HER OWNER Sarah Carroll reluctantly admitted she abandoned hope of again seeing her Windy alive. Windy went missing more than nine months ago, a few days shy of Christmas, when Carroll’s left open the door to their Garland apartment. Carroll’s fear, she said, was that the might have been hit by a car or snatched up for use as training bait in a fighting ring. Sept. 30, though, brought unexpected and welcomed news. Garland Animal Services called Carroll to say a microchip scan identified a in their care as Windy, and the wheels of reunion began to turn, fast. That emotional reunion was captured on video, and it’s pretty clear Windy recognized her human. Diana Oats, Animal services manager for Garland, said Animal services officers picked up Windy near the Carroll family’s former residence — the Carrolls had since moved to Dallas — and the might have been looking for the last home she knew. Whatever Windy’s tale, Sarah Carroll of Garland then Dallas, and Windy of Garland, points unknown, Garland, and now Dallas, experienced the happiest of reunions because of a microchip. Hello pet-people, a microchip. Are you listening? The above was copied and pasted from the article I read. I saw the video but I don't believe I can post videos here. It made me cry. What was strange to me is that I wrote a fictional 's story named in honor of my deceased Skippy, with a similar plot. The moral of the story is to make sure your pet has a microchip. That wasn't around when my was alive but he had some sort of identification on him. If you know other reunion stories, please feel free to post them here. They always touch my heart. Elaine Shuel |

Thanks Lucas. It's too bad I couldn't share the video. She was crying as her dog came to her, and then she was holding and patting him, and his tail was wagging. It was so sweet. Elaine Shuel

That is a touching story Elaine. Thank you for posting it. When I purchased my dog from the breeder she had a micro chip put in his ear. He is no longer with me but that was back in 1992 when I got him. It is so important if a dog gets separated from the owner. Interesting how the dog went back to their former home. They sure are smart animals.

Welcome to my blog, Carolyn. I'm glad you checked out the video. It was very sweet to watch their reunion. I know the feeling of how devastated one would be. Once we thought we lost our dog but we found him a short time after (the same day). Elaine Shuel

Hi Elaine: If it's possible and safe to microchip dogs I wonder why someone doesn't come up with some kind of microchip locater system that can tell police the exact location of children when they get kidnapped. Years ago when we went to work and left our little dog alone, she was chewing furniture like crazy. One time she chewed one entire stair out of the staircase. We loved her so much but finally we gave her away to a family with children miles away. Three days later we heard scratching on our front door, and guess who managed to find her way back home. We were so happy and decided to keep her and play dumb if the people we gave her to came back looking for her. They never came back, so we always wondered what state their furniture was in or how a cute little dog managed to make it back to us in busy downtown Toronto.

Why is it dangerous, Carolyn? Is there something we're not considering? Thanks so much for your comment. Elaine Shuel

Welcome to my blog, Rosie. Thanks so much for your comment. I am so sorry to hear of your missing dog, Jack. I am glad you have a microchip for Snuffles though. Losing a pet, no matter how that happens, is losing a part of your family. I hope everyone realizes that and takes whatever precautions necessary to prevent that happening. Elaine Shuel
