You are a WEE bit younger than me, and in music, that can make a big difference..... as can our locality. When you were still a teenager and into the music, I was already married with two babies and busy in the adult world. I heard the music, but never really noticed the words. A good example of this is the music of Little Richard..... I never realized the meaning of the words of his songs until Joe pointed them out to me. WOW.... he must have laughed at all of us.
Later in life, looking back, I saw the rebellion and ridicule of adults in a lot of the music, but wrote it off to ideology of the young and stupid, who would outgrow it when they had to deal with the real world.
Today, I just enjoy the old music as catchy tunes, with a youthful message because, like me, those youngsters who enjoyed that music eventually grew up and faced the real world............. and sadly, we raised a generation who raised a generation who ridicules and rebels against society, because we worked so hard to give them a better life.

    Quoting  :

It is correct. I graduated high school in 1964 at the age of 16, with plans to go into nurse's training and then the Marines. But I got pregnant and had my first baby at 17, got married at 18, and had my second baby when I was 19, in 1966. Nurse's training came later, but no Marine career for me. No regrets, that marriage lasted almost 30 years until he died.
But life experiences sure do affect what music and how we listen to it. Also, our locality. Joe, in the big eastern cities, was listening to pop and opera, while in our area country, easy listening, and some pop were the sounds we heard...... Of course, then the onset of rock-n-roll took over.
But like I said, I didn't pay much attention to the words, just knew which tunes I liked.

daughter #1 saw Roger Waters concert this past week. She was showing me phone footage last night of 'The Wall' thing. We saw the movie 'The Wall' together a few years ago and I don't really care that much about it. But live last week he had a bunch of Hispanic kids on stage singing "we don't need no education..." whatever... then they pulled off their sweaters, and shirts under said 'RESIST'. I told her to get the phone before I threw it across the house. Listening to David Gilmore all afternoon to get my head right. Maybe I'm missing the message but I know RW is a big 'FUK TRUMPer' as part of his show
