San Francisco Dreamin'

Last week I spent most of the week near Union Square in San Francisco. I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO. I had been there before but it's been awhile. Coming from Tucson, I think the thing I noticed most is the number of pedestrians walking around til very late at night. Everything seems open lots longer than sleep Tucson!

Of course, San Francisco offers so many different ways to entertain you. I partied like I was still in my 20s and was exhausted when I got home, but what a great city!

San Fran, even though it reminds me of other small but cosmopolitan cities around the world, is really unique. You can spend all your money in the shops - or the shows - or the museums - or spend nothing at all just walking around to all the districts and still have the best time ever. The mix of cultures is fantastic. If you like variety, San Fran is certainly a great place to visit.

I partied at the 39th-floor bar at the Marriott and at the most elegant vegetarian restaurant at Fort Mason. I visited Cavallo Point, an interesting and beautiful bit of old army base/protected wilderness near the Marin Headlands. Cavallo was interesting because it has been turned into a wonderfully quiet resort - right under the Golden Gate Bridge - due to a public/private partnership different than any other in the National Park System.

I absolutely could not leave San Francisco without riding the cable car its full length from Fisherman's Wharf on down to Market. As I hung on the side, the sea-tainted air streaming past my face, I looked up and down the side streets and noticed how much more San Francisco had to offer than I had been able to cram into just 5 days.

San Francisco, I'll be back again. I think it would take a lifetime to enjoy all you have to offer!

Hello

I too, love the city and have many very fond memories. Politics aside, the city has so much to see and do that covers the cost gamete from zero to the national budget.

Did you drive "The crookest street in the world"? Its fun, exciting and will keep your mind on the trip down... Or take the ferry from the city over to Sausalito? All is good stuff and really fun!

Have a great day!

I just got back from a 13 week assignment from April to July in Oakland. I stayed in Alameda. They had a ferry that went to the piers in SF. I would go there as often as I could. My husband and I always wanted to fly into SF and stay for a couple of weeks then drive down the coast to southern Cal. Unfortunately, he died and we never took that trip. So, it was in his memory that I explored every area in and around SF that I could. Then took a week to drive down the coast back home. I loved it there and desperately want to go back. Thank you for renewing my fond memories.

I'm sorry for your loss. When I dropped my only child off in Missoula, I decided I needed a 10-day Road Trip down the coast to get over my 'grief' before returning to my empty nest. Actually, I had a blast. AND I was ready for the quiet when I opened the door and no kid noise greeted me.
