Happy New Year - La Shana Tova

I've been reading and commenting on many blogs lately that all seem to be about the same thing. At this time of year, the High Holy Days for Jews all over the world, we are supposed to reflect on our deeds of the past year, atone for our sins, and ask God to inscribe us in the Book of Life for the coming year. It is a time to wipe clean the slates of our lives and begin another year with a fresh start. I've been doing a lot of reflecting myself, and I have decided not to respond to any more blogs or emails whose focus is on negativity. We have all read, or heard in chat, enough to know all the stories from every faction involved in the bickering (and I include myself for commenting on other blogs), so I am wiping that part of my SFF slate clean. I will, instead, focus on the positive things that I really like about SFF.

In the six months since I've been haunting these halls, I have made many fascinating acquaintances, and a few good friends. I have learned so much about other countries and cultures first hand by talking in chat with people all over the world. Living 6200 feet up a mountain is not exactly conducive to an active social life, so the time I spend in chat is not only informative, but entertaining as well. If I don't like what is being said, I can go to another chat room and find other interesting people to shmooze with. We are all in this "getting older" thing together, and will be facing the toughest years of our lives, so it is comforting for me to know that I have a large and understanding peer group as close as my computer.

I am not often serious when blogging, and I'm almost never serious in chat, but during this week of soul searching and reflection I am making a conscious decision to take from SFF what I came here for..friendship, comraderie, information, and fun. I pray that the members who have lost sight of what SFF is about will realize how destructive and toxic the negativity truly is, and I ask that we all be inscribed in the Book of Life for another healthy, happy year.
