Mercy’s Lament

Bible in a Year:
Exodus 39–40

Matthew 23:23–39
My heart is poured out the ground . . . because and infants faint in the streets of the city.

Lamentations 2:11
Today's Scripture & Insight:

Lamentations 2:10–, 18–19
Her father blamed his illness witchcraft. It was AIDS. When he died, his , ten-year-old Mercy, grew even closer her mother. But her mother was sick too, and years later she died. From then , Mercy’s sister raised the five siblings. That’s when Mercy began keep a journal of her deep pain.

The prophet Jeremiah kept a record of his pain too. In the grim book of Lamentations, he wrote of atrocities done to Judah by the Babylonian army. Jeremiah’s heart was especially grieved for the youngest victims. “My heart is poured out on the ground,” he cried, “because my people are destroyed, because and infants faint in the streets of the city” (2:11). The people of Judah had a history of ignoring God, but their were paying the price too. “Their lives ebb away in their mothers’ arms,” wrote Jeremiah (v. ).

We might have expected Jeremiah reject God in the face of such suffering. Instead, he urged the survivors, “Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift your hands him for the lives of your ” (v. 19).

It’s good, as Mercy and Jeremiah did, pour out our hearts God. Lament is a crucial part of being human. Even when God permits such pain, He grieves with us. Made as we are in His image, He must lament too!

Reflect & Pray
How do you handle the painful situations in your life? How might it help you to write it down and share your journal with a friend?

Dear God, I’m hurting because of ____________________. You see my grief. Please show Your strength in my life today.

Years ago, I kept a prayer journal. I really don't know why I stopped, but perhaps I may do it again. I keep a record of our medical stuff. I also keep a calendar record of the things I accomplish each day to encourage myself.
I've gotten where I don't even like to listen to our local news because of the violence in our nearest cities. Children are being shot (even as they ride in the car with the grandparents) by stray bullets from gangs and others trying to kill each other.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

It is good that everyone has their way of facing life problems.
One way does not fit all.
The path depends on personality.
My personality test in college days was something like independent, dominant, manipulative. I assume it is why I never ask, need or depend on outside forces or anyone other than myself.
I feel like I have done OK. by my standards and they are pretty high compared to many. LOL
Pray On!
