Serving at least

Bible in one year:
1 Samuel 19–21

Luke :29–54
The King will answer, "Truly I say unto you, whatever you have done for one of my least brothers and sisters, you did it for me."

Matthew 25:40

Today's Scriptures & Insight:

Matthew 25:31–40
His name is Spencer. But everybody calls it "Spence." He was a state athletics champion in high school; he then attended a prestigious university on a full academic scholarship. He now lives in one of the largest cities in the United States and is highly respected in the field of chemical engineering. But if you asked Spence his greatest accomplishments to date, he wouldn't mention any of those things. He would be enthusiastic about his trips to Nicaragua every few months to consult and teachers in the mentoring program he helped establish in one of the poorest areas of the country. And I'd tell you how enriched his life has been in serving them.

"The youngest of these." It is a phrase that people use in various ways, however, Jesus used it to describe those who, according to the standards of the world, have little or nothing to offer us in exchange for our service. They are the men, women and that the world often overlooks, if not completely forgotten. However, it is exactly those people that Jesus elevates to such beautiful status by saying, "Do what you did [for them], you did it for me" (Matthew 25:40). You don't have to have a degree from a prestigious university to understand the meaning of Christ: serving "the least" is the same as serving him. All it really takes is a willing heart.

Reflect & Pray
Who comes to mind when you hear the phrase "the least of these"? What is something you could do for them?

King Jesus, I'm afraid I make you harder than it is. Your words are clear—Call me at the smallest, maybe in Nicaragua or maybe in my neighborhood. Give me courage to serve.

I know God talking about doing good to help other individuals here.... but isn't the flip side of the coin, when we do things on purpose to hurt others, we do it to Him also? And words are a powerful tool. We should consider that before we act or speak.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
