Facing battles with God

Bible in one year:
Judges 7–8

Luke 5:1–
In the Lord I take refuge.

Psalm 11:1

Today's Scriptures & Insight:
Psalm 11

The heroic exploits of U.S. Army Soldier Desmond Doss appear in the 20 film Hacksaw Ridge. While Doss' convictions did not allow him take his human life, as an army doctor he pledged to preserve life even at his own risk. The subpoena read at the Doss Medal of Honor ceremony on October , 1945, included these words: "The two first-class privates refused seek refuge and remained in the fire-ravaged area with the many affected, taking them one by one the edge of the escarpment. . . . He faced enemy shelling and small arms fire undecided help an artillery officer."

In Psalm 11, David's conviction that his refuge was in God forced him resist the suggestions of fleeing rather than confronting his enemies (vv. 2–3). simple words included his declaration of faith: "In the Lord I am sheltered" (vers. 1). That well-rooted conviction would guide his behavior.

David's words in verses 4–7 amplified God's greatness. Yes, life can sometimes be like a battlefield, and hostile fire can send us disperse cover ourselves when we are bombarded with health challenges or financial, relational, and spiritual stress. So what should we do? Recognize that God is the king of the universe (vers. 4); delight in His incredible ability judge accurately (vv. 5–6); and rest in His delight in what is right, just, and equitable (vers. 7). We can quickly run God in search of refuge!

Reflect & Pray
When have you experienced the hostile fire of life and been tempted find refuge in something other than God? Can you remember times when God came his rescue and his hope in Him was renewed?

Father, help see you more clearly than any force that opposes and runs You for true safety.

Many times, but God is always there..... I'm sorry to say that I just didn't always look to Him first.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
