The purple shawl

Bible in one year:
Joshua 1–3

Mark 16
I urge you... to unite in my struggle by praying to God for me.

Romans 15:30

Today's Scriptures & Insight:

Romans 15:23–33
While serving as my mother's caretather in a cancer center hundreds of miles from my house, I asked people to pray for us. Over the months, isolation and loneliness took away my strength. How could I take care of my mother if I gave in to my physical, mental and emotional exhaustion?

One day, a friend sent me an unexpected care package. Jodi had made a purple prayer shawl, a warm reminder that we had people praying for us every day. Every time I wrapped the soft thread around my shoulders, I felt that God embraced me with the prayers of His people. Years later, He still uses that purple shawl to comfort me and strengthen my determination.

The Apostle Paul affirmed the importance and refreshing power to pray for others. Through his passionate request for prayers for support and encouragement during his travels, Paul demonstrated how those who pray for others become partners in the ministry (Romans 15:30). Offering specific requests, the Apostle showed not only his dependence on the support of his fellow citizens, but his confidence that God responds powerfully to prayer (vv. 31–33).

We will all live days when we are lonely. But Paul shows us how to ask for prayer as we pray for others. When we are involved in the intercessord prayers of God's people, we can experience God's strength and comfort no matter where life takes us.

Reflect & Pray
Who has used God to encourage them through intercessor prayer? Who can you pray for today?

Loving God, thank you for the gift of intercessor prayers and for making sure you hear me and take care of me wherever I go.

I belong to a prayer group in face book that has a lot of SFF folks involved in it. There have been multiple times that I've asked for prayer and felt God's presence engulf and strengthen me. That is why when someone asks for prayer, I do not put it on a prayer list for later, I pray immediately.
People need that comfort immediately when they ask.
I know He hears and answers my prayers, but He also instructs us to be intercessors for others. He knows we can get too worn out to stand in faith alone, so he connects us all together for strength.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I have certainly felt the prayers in the last few months.
