2 weeks till Christmas

I've been spending a lot of time these past few nights with my thoughts, the fireplace burning, a good book, and a tall glass of Crown and 7. These have been uneventful except for the time to think some things through and do some planning for future. I realized how selfish I've become in some ways, and how I've spread myself terribly thin on so many others. I guess this is the time for a person to reflect on the true meaning of the Season, and the joys that it brings.

I turned on the TV the other night after work, and settled myself into my old chair. You know the one, it has the perfect imprint of your ass imbedded in its cushion, so you dont have to wiggle around to get it comfortable. my call it the "maneater", because it will fit 2 people, is perfect for naps during the ball games, and is beyond being comfortable. Anyway, I flipped through the channels and came upon "A Charlie Brown Christmas", and left it on. I watched in amazement as it was uncut from its original form, and left perfect. I sat there and watched and listened to Charlie Brown look for the meaning of Christmas, surrounded by his friends that only thought of themselves. Except for one, Linus, who took center stage, and quoted from the Old Testament, the story of Jesus birth in the manger. I sat quietly, just absorbing the story as it was told, not in Politically Correct terms to avoid controversy and complaint, but instead told as I remember and believe.

It was such a personal triumph, to hear the words and watch the story unfold in such simple terms as they were back when it was written, and later on when it was portrayed in cartoon form. I sat there, just appreciating the story of the man that came from such humble beginnings, who was unafraid to quote scripture, and pass along the meaning of Christmas. My hat is off to you sir, and may we all reflect on what the Season truly means.
