The Joy of Disfunctional Families

Yesterday, I called my Brother in Arkansas just to say

"Yo! From the Commonweath of Virginia"

He wasn't there so I left the message on the Answering Machine.

I got a return Message from my Sister-In-Law

"Don't call with your Stupid Messages and Leave Ralph (My Brother) Alone."

Where did that come from? I thought we were friends.

My Middle Brother and his wife fight alot and he frequently gets thrown in jail. My younger
brother bails him out, my Middle Brother goes back to his wife and they get mad at each other. Ad Infintum........ My Oldest Brother now in the SpiritWorld and My Sister don't get along with my Sister-In-Law.

I live in another State, focus on my own life and stay out of the family drama. However there is still a bond with the siblings that I grew up with.

My Sister-In-Law talked on the phone telling me that my entire family was TRASH and all of us were plotting against her......Ad Infintum

Oh Well! I am POWERLESS over someone else's disfucntional mindset. I told her that whatever issues she had was her's not mine and that she was NOT going to stop me from contacting my brother.

We already lost one sibling, we are NOT going to lose another one. Life on Life's Terms and Life goes on...............

Aren't families wonderful. Always knew mine was disfunctional, then looked around, we are all disfuntional. But wait there was a family, dear friends, everything was perfect, the children excelled in school and in all their extra activities, I would looks at my crazy bunch and wonder how I failed them.
One day I got a call at work, the sixteen yr old son of the perfect family had committed suicide, after the shock and tears I rushed home to hug every one of this crazy family of mine...we have love, and we have patience and we have each other and wouldn't have it any other was....Witchy

I could write a book about mine. What's scary is the younger members of our extended family are outdoing us in their newly devised manners of achieving dysfunction. It not only appears to perpetuate itself, it is evolving to become even more dysfunctional!

Never regret growing old, the privilege is denied to many. -Anonymous

I can relate so some of what you are saying. One of my sisters will never fail to make a comment about my personality at any family gathering. We have lived in different states for more than 10 years and have only visited half that many times.

There sure is something to be said for putting miles between family, and just admire them from afar ...very far. (Not a direct quote but paraphrased from a quote)

i ALWAYS KNEW MY FAMILY WAS DYSFUNCTIONAL UNTIL MY SISTER TOLD ME SHE HATED THE WORD DYSFUNCTIONL, SO I STOPPED USING IT. WE ARE ALL DYSFUNCTIONAL BUT I SPPOSE IT BETTER THAN BEING MAD!

Your post made me laugh because it's so candid. Reminds me of my family. It seems like dysfunction comes with age.

What ever happened to the word "family" and the meaning it holds? Not every family is dysfunctional, but a good many are.

I always tried to keep the "peace"....but a couple of years ago I gave up on my brother.

I'm sorry she tried to steal your sunshine.
