Christmas Day and the Pity Pot

Pity is the flattery the failure craves so that he may preserve his self-esteem. Somerset Maugham

It would be sooooooooooo easy to get on a Holiday Pity Pot this year.

So many unfulfilled expectations. A Love Connection went South. My two boys are all grown up, living in other states with agendas of their own. I am spending the Holiday Alone because WallyWorld is insisting that I take a day off.

Needless to say, If I REALLY wanted to be with folks, I would find a way. Two days ago, I climbed into bed early in anticipation of a hectic day at work. My ex-hubby called and said he was going to a friend's house and would meet me there. "I am undressed and in bed," I protested.

"Get dressed and come on over," he insisted. I reluctantly dressed and drove across town.

Our mutual friend bless her heart was drinking and wailing about how mean men are while cooking up a storm. Everyone else in the house was drinking. "That's Enough!" I thought, staying long enough to be polite before leaving.

On Christmas Day I went to work, came home - took three tylonol PM's with two Asprin and went to sleep.

Tonight I will take three tylonol PM's with two Asprin and go to sleep. I will go to work at 4am and Christmas of 2007 will be over.

I Think I am going to plant some pretty flowers in those pity pots.

Many people love to sit on their pity pot,
Yet, all they get are rings on their tushe.
They complain about the things they're not,
When all they need from their minds is push
Their self-defeating beliefs that hold them back.
Their self-destructive thoughts that create their lack.
Until they do, they'll sit on their pity pots,
Complaining about all the things they are not.

Hi starwomyn,
Inspirational plot. First time I have heard of pity pots and I am glad you don't need them. However, I agree with lovesunnydays that you may not need the drugs to help you sleep. By the way, flowers don't grow well in pity pots; try using fun pots. I was told one can grow anything in fun pots.

star: sorry to hear you had to spend today alone...here i was starting to feel sorry for myself because i only got to see my son for a short time this Christmas, as he and his Mom came to Illinois Sunday to celebrate at my ex-MIL's house, as they do every year...they are nice enough to invite me there on Christmas Eve, which i really do appreciate...but now he and my ex are most of the way home to Tennessee, and i find myself back in my normal, solitary routine...at any rate, Merry Christmas, and i hope the new year will be better for all of us...bob

Star be very careful of taking so many Asprin Based meds as you can cause stomach Bleeding. I was told you are better off to take Benadryl if you want a sleep aid not as damaging. But I understand your feelings. I had a Pity Party this year over Christmas also but then remembered it is just one day! Be glad you recognized that alcohol does not make the holiday. I was alone today and spent a Part of the day Listening to the Audio Book "The Alchemist" I highly recommend it am sure it is available as a book from the Library! Good Lessons for all but I especially enjoyed the reminder to Live "In The Moment" I hope the New Year is better for us all!

When I was an emergency room receptionist, I notice that the doctors frequently blended Tylenol with Asprin. I sometimes come home from work with sore muscles because of the lifting and combine that with insommia....... Hence a cocktail of tylenol PM, Asprin and melatonin.
