Small Town Courtroom Drama Grumpy, My now ex-hubby received a citation for violating a city ordinance. His Grass was too tall. It's a fifty dollar fine but Dumb things like this is how the town gets $$$$$$$$. Yesterday he went to go to court with broken lawnmower to parts to explain why the grass got a shade too tall. Did the cop take a measuring stick to measure the grass? He was told that he had to plead Guilty or Not Guilty. Dah! Can't it just be settle right now. Only if he agreed to give them $50. otherwise a trial is set up.  The First Form 1. He doesn't need a Lawyer 2. He will bring a Lawyer 3. He needs a court appointed lawyer (if he loses, he would have to pay for the court appointed lawyer) and 1. Decision by Jury or Decision by Judge so Grumpy asked - What happens if I check that I don't need a lawyer but decide to get one later on. Not a problem, It most likely cost more to hire a lawyer than it would be for the fifty dollar fine. Conditions of Waiving a $100. Bond (If he goes to jail awaiting the trial date - It would cost him $40. a day) 1. Abide by city laws (Dah!) 2. No drugs or alcohol use Grumpy asked, "Does this mean that I can't sit on my front porch and have a beer!" The Cop won't get him for having a beer in his home but if he does it while driving through town or smoke wacky weed while sitting at the riverbank, he will owe the City an extra one hundred dollars. 3. If he leaves the area he has to tell them. His weekend trips with his 32 year old girlfriend may be more than the local cop wants to hear. (He should have brought that half naked girlfriend into court with him)Abracadabra  |
