Photo Friday - Ration Challenge, RUN 8K 5K, Rocks!!!!

+hree years - The Ration Challenge - For tw0 weeks, eat what the Syrian refugee do while raising money for them. There was no challenge last year because of the pandemic and this year, This year, I opted not to do it because of Nissen Fundoplication surgery. The diet would have been problematic however I did manage to send them a little bit of money.

My 0lder s0n and I participated in the Shamrock 1OK run in Virginia Beach and the 5K Color Run in Atlanta.

Rocks are called Stone People by Natives. The Obsidian Stone can be used to absorb negativity. The Lapis is used for calming. I was going through a rough time in 2OI3 and continuously held these stones in my hand rotating them for grounding.

I don't think I'll run a marathon, even if they pay me. Good luck with the surgery.

A Marathon is 26.219 Miles. I was training for the Marine Corp Marathon is Washington D.C. but didn't follow through. A 5K run is 3.1 Miles and a 10K is , A 10K is 6.2 miles. The Shamrock Run was actually 8K 4.971 Miles. I was never a serious contender in most of the runs that I partipate in. I was interested in my own personal goals, the entertainment, raising money for the cause, and simply finishing the run. Those days may be over for me.

Great selection of" R" photos, really good. I love the cute little guy in the last photo.

I was never good at running, even in my younger day. A very short run to the bus is as much as I can manage now. Thankfully I can still walk a fair distance and enjoy it.

The Red beans and Rice made me think of my kids when they were on missionary trips to Central America.... it was a staple in the homes where they stayed, served almost every day.

Apparently, this is a staple for many THlRD World Countries. I certainly learned a lot while participating in the challenge. I had to make a few dietary changes. I used Teff instead of white flour. Teff is used in Ethiopia. I also used brown rice instead of white rice. It's a tad bit healthier AND there was no FiretrUCKING way that I was going to consume Sardines. I used spam instead. The refuges of Syria would not have kind of options but the money that I raised for them spends the same.

I don't recall the ration cards we had when I was a youngster. But my sister reminds me about them. Even though we lived on a farm we had them as well as we still had to buy essentials like sugar, flour, etc.
Your red beans and rice looks different from what I made. I will be posting a recipe soon.
