The Voice of the Unheard and Watts Towers

Rioting is the language of the unheard quotes Martin Luther King Jr.

My grandparents lived in Gardena which is a few miles away from Watts. I remember as a y0ungster sitting in my grandparents living room as we were watching the riots television. The Watts riots, of 1965 happened following an arrest for drunk driving in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Grumpy and I had plans take the b0ys a puppet show for a PWP event in the Los Angeles Area in 1992. We had postpone the trip due the Los Angeles riots, following the acquittal of police officers accused of using excessive force against Rodney King.

Fast forward another decades and the whole country seemed be rioting after George Floyd's death after an encounter with police. I remember a few of my friends chuckling when the Daughters of the Confederacy Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia was set on fire. There was the George Floyd death and Central Park Karen calling the police on black man who asked her to rightfully leash her dog. There was also the pandemic which escalated tensions and created additional hardships for more vulnerable, minority communities.

I made a point to donate for crowdfunding for black owned businesses damaged in the riots. I don't the answer and I am sure there are no easy answers.

Condoleezza Rice quotes that "Education gives folks a fighting change. We can't stop the bigots but we can help folks rise above them. Kim Klacik, a Black Republican woman who ran for congress in Baltimore also made the statements. Education, opportunities for economic advancements, ad infinitum.

Defunding the police doesn't mean getting rid of the police. It means redirecting some of the situations that police handle with professionals better equipped to handle certain situations. Do we really have mass incarcerate people who are struggling with addiction? Should in foster care be thrown in Juvenile jails when what they really need is stable families?

On the other hand, there is Watts Towers. They were built by Sabato Rodia, a semi-illiterate Italian immigrant. The towers were built using rebar, broken bottles and pottery. He started building the towers in the 1920's over a thirty- year span until he fell off the towers, moved away and quit.

It is ironic how I planned to write a blog about the Watts Towers after NileYears blog about the Georgia Guidestones and Lulu's statement that it must have been built by egotistical individually with lots of money. I immediately thought of Watts Towers and thought, "Not always!" The blog went in an entirely different direction. Oh Well, that's creative run riot.

But why would you equate Watts Tower with the Georgia guidestones? One was built over a long period by a single man with no agenda but to build a tower, the other was built oft by hired professionals who were instructed to engrave stone monuments with written instructions and erected in secret.. The only thing they have in common is that they are tall structures......I think you are confusing confusion with creativity.......

Why should we assume the motivation of either party. Art is art rather the artist has money or not. The Georgia Guidestones had what could have been universal truths(agree or disagree) in various languages. I have seen similar type monuments. I remember thinking that it would be awesome to build a replica of Stonehenge in my backyard. That is not a practical reality for me so I build Fairy Gardens instead. If I had the land and resources to build a smaller version of Stonehenge - I would do so - maybe because I am an egotistical b*tch with too much money (I wish) or perhaps just because I can. I plan to be in Georgia in a few months, I might give the Guidestones a visit just because I can.

Sometimes when an idea gets in your head, you just have to go for it and build it! Very artistic and really cool looking.

I wouldn't mind having a small version of Stonehenge on my property, but I have to build a new barn for the horses. A Stonehenge model sounds like it would be more fun to build.
