Community Service and Lucky Charms

The latter part of the morning, I managed to get out, run a few errands, stop at the local Java House for a latte, and check on the food pantry box by the Baptist Church.

This is a community service project by a girl scout troop. Folks can take or add to the pantry. Since I order from Amaz0n in bulk, I always add a few items from those purchases to the pantry. I found out that my eccentric neighbor does the same. Neither of us are wealthy women by any definition but sometimes small contributions can have a ripple effect in someone else's life.

The contents of the box are pathetic so I will be adding items tonight and I am sure that others will do the same. The end results can be magickal!!!

Winter of 2019 - My y0unger s0n was staying with me after leaving a bad relationship. He has a tendency to look in my refrigerator and ask "Where's the Food?!" I had to run to the store and get some "Billy Food" mostly Pizzas. One of his favorite cereals is Lucky Charms. I stopped at the panty to add a few items including a box of cereal. I noted that there was a box of "Lucky Charms" in the pantry so I did a cereal exchange.

My was so depressed because - he broke up with his girlfriend and moved out of their home. He works on the road and she had his car which she wrecked. She didn't pay rent with the money that he sent her. His plans to buy a new car fell through courtesy of the Pandemic. He found himself homeless, out of a job and his car in the junk yard. I assured him that he would land back on his feet as the miracles fell into place. I had to remind myself that he has a Higher Power too.

The Magickal journey started with a box of Lucky Charms.

My s0n is now back to work with a promotion - has a new car - and found a German shepherd on the hiking trail The dog is now his service dog so he takes the dog on the road with him. Unlike the old girlfriend, the dog understands the concept of loyalty.

Well, it sound like a dog is better suited as a companion to your son.....Women have more nuanced needs.......A sense of loyalty and regular Kibbles isn't usually enough for a girlfriend....

Yeah, providing a car and paying the rent isn't at all nuanced...

Yeah & the bitch spent the rent money. A real dog is better than that. Kibbles & Bits would be to good for her.
Party On!

I like that little food pantry concept. At our church, we had a similar thing, only it wasn't out in the open like that. Folks brought in what they could. Even with our large family, I often found some really good buys and would get a few things extra for the food pantry. The pantry was available to the people of the church and those outside of it.
The couple in charge handled it in two ways.... if a person just needed specific items, they could get that, or if they needed groceries for a week, they could get that. The couple put together a box, along with menu suggestions so the receiver had some idea of what they were thinking as they assembled it. People could have the box taken out the back door to be picked up, or they would deliver it to the home.
The whole concept was that it was OUR pantry, to put stuff into it and receive stuff out of it. One of the biggest needs was soaps: bath, dish or laundry. Isn't that odd?

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I have help to organize and operate a few food pantries in my lifetime. At one point, I was a struggling mom with tw0 KLDS. I made sure that my family ate. Another time, I was operating a pantry for the homeless. The one thing that most of them needed was a can opener.

What this woman did to my son was betrayal. She wasn't good enough for him and I am glad it ended before it got worse. Still, my son learned a very expensive lesson.

THERE IS NO SUCH PANTRY HERE BUT THERE ARE TOWNS THAT HAVE THEM. WE HAVE THE BIG CHARITY ORGANIZATIONS THAT COLLECT AT SUPERMARKETS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR AND I ALWAYS TRY TO DONATE A FEW FOOD ITEMS. IN THE HOPE THAT I WILL NEVER NEED THEIR SERVICES.

We have the same here, it's a great idea for sure. Most shoppers are really generous with their contributions.

Your son had a lucky escape from his freeloader girl friend.
