Bucket Lists and the Joy of Being a Senior Activist?!

Washington DC was on my bucket list for several years. So was Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia.. Years later, through a series of events I ended moving Charlottesville. Monticello became a regular place go. I didn't always visit the mansion but I spent time in their coffee shop and hiking trails for a few years.

Washington DC became a regular. I learned to hop on the train and utilize the hostels which is far more economical than the Trump Hotel. This came in handy when I became an official Quaker and learned activism and lobbying.

So last year I was on the American Friends Service Committee which required a trip to Philadelphia. This was a major league Bucket Listing for me. I would have loved to explore the city but alas AFSC duties prevailed.

I took the train to Philadelphia - I noted the issues that we covered in the meetings. I took the bus to Washington DC, stayed at the William Penn House, took a trip to Capital Hill, and visited our new elected WV GOP Congresswoman to discuss the issues. The next day, I took the train back to West Virginia.

I was grounded for 2020 but learned to bloom where I am planted. I ended managing the local GOP Headquarters. I am now the 2021 Eastern Regional Vice President for the local GOP club. Our community has been covered by a huge sea of Red. I know the elected officials by their FIRST NAME, I know thier wives and other family members. I even know the name of thier pets. This is a Senior Activist's DREAM Scenerio!!!!!

Maybe in 2021, I will be dancing under the Liberty Bell. I want to cross that bridge on the Delaware River to see what's on the other side.

Your second image I think is the Eastern State Penitentiary. The golden Joan of Arc statue and the Rocky Balboa statues are located next to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

On the other side of the Ben Franklin Bridge, the only site of interest in Camden is the Adventure Aquarium and the Battleship New Jersey. I would not advise to visit Camden at night, unless you are in a group.

Part of me envies you..... a very small part. You are seeing things, doing things, and meeting people that most of us could only imagine doing. But most of all, I envy you living your dream and doing things you love to do.
I have seen a little bit of DC. We drove through and around the monuments when we were traveling from point A to point B and told ourselves that we would return someday and take in the sights more closely. Someday never came.
The same with NYC. We passed through the northern edge on the way to CT and said we would return. I did return later when Joe and I visited the son who was working outside of NYC. Joe had been there many times, so he remained in our hotel while my son and I went into the city and enjoyed the day riding the open buses and taking the Staten Island Ferry.
As I've said before...… YOU GO, STAR!!!!!

Most of the pictures were taken from the tour bus. That was about all that I had time for when I was in Philadelphia. My older son and I went to New York when he was on the Murray Provich Show because of a bear attack. We went to the Empire State Building and the Central Park Zoo but didn't have time to do much more. I was overwhelmed by the Metro system. Now I am a pro. LOL!
