Turmeric and the Bad AZZZZZZ Fairy!!!!

Yesterday the First Fairy arrived in the mail and this morning I noted that the Turmeric is finally spouting. My research revealed that these plants don't like cold weather. West Virginia weather is not cooperating so I have to bring the Turmeric inside and play classical music for it. I also play the Charlie Daniel's Band for it. The Turmeric has to get used to the fact that it now lives in West Virginia.

My plan for the Fairy Garden for the Fair is to have a few bad azzzzz fairies along with Dragons, Tigers, Lions Bears (BLT) along with some very sparkly twig fairies (handmade by me) and gnomes. Depending on how the Turmeric sprouts by August, it may end up being the one entered in the West Virginia State Fair if we have one this year.

Either way, I will end up with an awesome Bad Azzzzz Fairy Garden.

In our merchandise, I used to have a cute text book fairy. If I find it, Ill send you a picture to see if you would want it, but it might not be what you would want.... It's not a bad azzzzz fairy, just a classical one.

LOL! Your cute text book fairy would be most welcome among the turmeric. She might even be the one that wins first prize at the fair. I have learned that whatever my Higher Power sends me is a gift. One of the things going into the garden is a Polar Bear. A friend who spoke at a 12 Step meeting once talked about making amends to his deceased father in the desert. He looked down and found a polar bear. He died last year of ASL. I was in my car thinking about him , opened the glove compartment and found a polar bear. That was a God Shot to honor Chally.

I don't have any of my fairies on hand....I gave them all away, but I know that a couple of the people I gave them to would take a photo.....I think they were "computer fairies".....

My BIL gave me a bag of fresh Turmeric roots for Christmas to help relieve Arthritis in some of my joints.....I had never seen fresh Turmeric roots before....I love Turmeric as a spice....I make my own Curry mixtures, but I never really thought about the plant.....When I opened the bag, I picked up a root and took a good bite...my BIL and my daughter and my grands all yelled NO!....you're not supposed to eat it!........But it was delicious......I used them all up.......and want more, but they are outrageously expensive......and not available locally.......and so I googled it and found, as I suspected, that it won't grow here.....well, Duh, it's from India.....

Crazy how much that fresh root stains eh?....Everything in my kitchen turned yellow.....my cutting-board is still yellow...

I found my Turmeric roots on Amazon for less than 10 dollars. I am not sure how mail orders work in Canada but I do know mailing to Canada is the same as mailing in the United States. I am going to definitely take your suggestions of making fairies from twigs and acorns. I'll figure it out as I go along.

I tend to grow kill proof plants or find out what I grow well and grow a lot of it. This turmeric plant is an exception because it's temperamental about temperature . I have to frequently bring it inside and play music for it.

Interesting about the Turmeric plant. I was taking turmeric tablets for my arthritis. I wasn't sure it was helping. I also have the turmeric powder as I use it in cooking. I found a recipe for a turmeric latte which was quite nice. My brother takes turmeric all the time but makes a paste with honey and black pepper. He said you should take black pepper with turmeric. I am taking cinnamon tablets now for my Diabetes. It is supposed to lower blood. A friend of mine told she was taking it although she doesn't have diabetes but to help bring down the numbers.

Mozart, Chopin, Various Operas, and Charlie Daniels. I might have to consider Mahler as well.

If you have access to an Asian grocery , they will likely sell tubers. Here, even the regular supermarkets sell them.
It's easy to grow from the eyes on the tubers. Makes a nice big plant and the flowers are lovely. Is a hot weather plant for sure so grow it in a container that you can bring inside before winter.
If some of it gets on your clothes, you may as well dye them yellow. I lived in India and they don't get turmeric stains out there either.
If interested, look online for a recipe for turmeric milk, very tasty and really effective as an anti inflammatory.

I've made the turmeric milk before, It's very much a comfort food. I also add it to bone broth which helps with digestive issues along with inflammatory pain that often comes with arthritis.

Mailing in the backwoods of beyond not so great at the moment.....also, I don't find that it improved my Arthritis.....It seems so random.....I tried THC oil this winter too, no discernible results.

I use thread/string and wind it around a joining point and paint it with white glue..to keep it from unravelling.I drill tiny holes in the nut/acorn for the eyes and glue a large seed-bead in the holes. The hole in the bead looks like a pupil....I made some fairies with many eyes......I drilled a hole for the neck as well.....Many of them were in a flying position with a thread attached to the back to hang it.
