Eldering and Praying for our leaders

There is a Quaker term called "Eldering" where somebody with experience might share that insight with another who seems to be straying off the right path.

Today, I found a post on another site with a photo of a group of black folks praying for President Trump. The idea was post responses that ridicule the President and the people praying for him.

I posted pointing out that these people are correct in praying for their leader.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 - I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

This is called Eldering but doesn't work well for those who want to participate in the Religious Society of Bad Friends. I have been guilty of being a part of that society myself. Que Sera Que Sera, Let them Spin, Live and Let Live.

There are also scriptures about the Wicked and Ungodly leaders but how do we determine who is wicked and ungodly. Some folks say that Trump is ungodly while others said the same about Obama. There were quite a few Presidents who had mistresses and sexual indiscretions. Some of them participated in shady business deals. Others accepted bribes. There was at least one gay President in the Closet. Grant was a major league drunk. Andrew Jackson set up the Trail of Tears. Nixon was definitely a member of the Religious Society of Bad Friends. Ad Infinitum.

Humans are not perfect creatures and that includes Presidents. If someone has a different perspective on an issue, that doesn't make them Wicked and Ungodly. We are all capable of making mistakes, learning from them and doing better.

I didn't vote for George W Bush but I believe that he was a decent man. He once thanked all the folks voting for him and said that he felt those prayers.

The key is not to pray for them if they are Christians, or if they are Godly, or etc..... the scripture said to pray for them. Period.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

The local churches run the local food pantries, clothing banks, help folks with emergencies - providing vouchers for fuel or helping with utilities for people regardless of faith. They have opened their doors to folks during natural disasters - providing emergency shelter. The rooms are open to 12 Step Meetings. There are meals for Seniors. The local churches are VERY active in helping people. They do get members coming to their church because of the attraction. I became a Quaker because of activism.

Eldering is now upsetting 'woke' culture, it's offensive to those being corrected.

On a meme there's a debate and it reads, "I know your answer is correct but it has upset Michael so he gets the point."

It's a post truth era we are living in. Standing for the truth only incurs hate for truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Spiritually is a personal experience and I don't think that believers can do anything to instill belief in God to non-believers. When the student is ready, the teacher appears.
