Star's 10K Adventure & Relay for Life!!!!!

Since a Six Mile Run was on my training schedule last week. I figured the Relay For Life Event would be a good time to practice a 10K Run which translate to 6.2 miles.

One of the Managers at work was raising money for the Event. Relay Teams would be camping and walking continuously. Dang! There is no relay team. Why don't I organize one, I suggested to her.

She's not running nor camping out at night. Mosquitoes. Yuck! She advised me.

Personally, I've camped on my own many time and I've spent hours on hiking trails. There are Citronella Candles, Off, and tucking Dryer Softener Sheets in the bra discourages those pesky bugs.

We are raising money for a Good Cause. The American Cancer Society. The Manager did it by selling raffle tickets and food at the event. Sam's Club also made a contribution.

I made money by Captaining the Relay Team with a committment to run 10 K and encourage others to at least walk. She set up a booth on Saturday Morning. I worked on Saturday Morning, got off later, came home, walked the dog, packed the car and off to the relay, I went.

What an awe inspiring event it was. I donated for a luminaria for my Friend Johnny who recently cross over due to cancer.

There was a 16 year old with Leukemia who spoke about her battle with Cancer. She stated that the Luminaria for the ones who crossed over doesn't mean they lost the battle with Cancer. It means that they moved on to a bigger, better place.

I ran about three miles when the sunset and the darkness fell. The night was brighten by the glow of the illuminated bags bearing the names of those who have battled with Cancer.

In Honor of the Cancer Survivors like my Maternal Grandmother - NAN who survived Breast Cancer but another kind of Cancer took her when she finally reached a Ripe Old Age.

In Memory of my Friend Johnny. We never met in person but talked on the telephone. He talked about the treatment and how bad it made him feel. If Johnny can deal with months of Chemotherapy. I can run 10K and maybe even a Marathon in October

There were bagpipe performers playing "The Circle of Light" and "Amazing Grace."

It was not an easy run. I couldn't run that week because of a pulled muscle. I worked all day before going to run at the event. My timing will never qualify me for the Boston Marathon but I made it. Afterwards, I went home and slept most of the Sunday.

This Week, I run 3 Miles on Tuesday and Thurday. Five Miles on Wednesday and Seven Miles on Saturday. When my job transfer finally goes through, I'll be running on the Greenbrier River Trail in West Virginia
