Time to Take Time I've had two job offers recently That is, additional job offers Additional to the job I already do Which is teaching Which is already like working at least A job and a half Given that one often works evenings And weekends Oh, but teachers get summer vacations. . . Right? Indeed. Some of us do, if we are not Taking courses Or working in the summer I have worked, these past two summers I could have worked, again, this summer At a job I love. I said no No, thank you very much for thinking of me, but It is time Time to take time to sit in the garden and watch the hummingbird flash a jeweled throat to dig a trowel into the dark earth to pull a weed, or a dozen weeds Time to sit under the apple tree, drink lemonade and listen Listen, now, the wind blows through the spruce boughs, now, there, in the woods behind me a robin calls her liquid summer song, bees drone, then the deep rough croak of the raven, the flapping of his feathered wings on still air now the loon at dusk. Time to say yes yes, I will take time |
