Take a Moment Take a moment of your time to remember the Patriots who have served our nation and those currently in the service. I made this wreath for the front door. The old 48 star flag is from the era of FDR |

A windy 84 F .. 29 C here but pleasant if out of the wind. The air is unstable as if to blow up storms... just have to wait and see.

We had several friends who were drafted or enlisted and served in 'Nam, and thankfully, most of them came home safely. But one young man was a special friend of my first husband's and he gave his life there. He was proud to do his service to out country, and was to be married when his stint in the Army was done. I post a memorial to him every year in face book. As for celebrating, Joe and I will have a usual quiet day at home. My daughter will come over and mow the yard, and I would like to plant some flowers, but I'm not going out shopping in this busy holiday time, so the flowers will have to wait a few days. It is extremely windy out here where we live also, so I understand what you are saying about the wind. Hopefully, tomorrow will be good for you to enjoy some outdoor time. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I had just met JD when his school friend; Mark Wall gave his life in Dessert Storm. Our first real Social event as a gay couple came with the funeral in a local church. My dad served in the USMC and grandfathers who served in the WW II and Korea era but they never talked about it. My grandmother had Alzheimers where she thought I was her brother Kurt who served in the Philippines eventually married a local and we have family somewhere in the Philippines. I was injured as a youth snowboarding so the military didn't want me or I'd probably gone into the USMC. Those who have served are held in highest esteem. Joe was in the Navy, but it was during peacetime. My first husband had a medical deferment, and when they did the reassessment later, we were married with a baby, so he was moved way down the enlistment list and was never called up. So many of my friends were either drafted or enlisted and went to Viet Nam. All came home safely, except for Lawrence's good friend, whom I mentioned earlier. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

My dad was a Marine who came home safely. I saw on his discharge papers that he was at Iwo Jima. Sadly, he lost his life in a tractor accident when I was in the 4th grade. I wanted to be a Marine nurse, but having a baby early in life put a stop to that dream and put me on a whole different track in life. Joe was in the Navy, but it was during peacetime. I DO NOT LIKE WIND MUCH BUT LIVE IN A PLACE THAT CAN BE VERY VERY WINDY AT TIMES. MISTRAL, SIROCCO AND WINDS FROM THE MOUNTAINS, IT IS ALL PART OF THE CULTURE OF THIS REGION. TODAY THERE WILL BE A CEREMONY FOR THE AMERICANS WHO DIED DURING WW2 IN PROVENCE AND ARE BURIED IN DRAGUIGNAN. WE STILL REMEMBER.
